This Little Piggy Watched Football, This Little Piggy had Beer…

And this little piggy saved the game!

Okay, that wasn’t much of a nursery rhyme, but it should give you enough information on whether or not you desire to finish reading my ‘kick-off’ post. In all honesty, I’m very excited about this venture. College Football season is absolutely my favorite time of year. It’s not just the game; it’s the camaraderie, the tailgating, the stories, the rivalries, the upsets… Regardless, if you’re an MU fan like me, a K-State fan like P-Yeti, or dear I say it, one of those Jayhawkers, I hope you find this site useful, or at least somewhat entertaining. Let the entertainment begin….

The Place: I was responsible for the first stop of the year, the Brooksider. For years it has been one of my favorite locations to watch both football and basketball. There’s a TV everywhere you turn your head, and the despite what the Yeti may say, the sound system works. The basement is also a great place to throw a private-ish party or to get your urban dance on after hours. The food is good, the beer is cold, and the servers are stacked (whatever that means). Additionally, if you come early enough, you’ll find a group of old men that are there every day. They are great. I believe their names are Walt, Walt, Ron and Ron. If you see them just glance aimlessly and say, “Walt or Ron.” You’ll get a response.

The game day specials were half price appetizers; although, I was charged full price, and didn’t think to complain until later, and a bucket of 5 Bud Selects for $12. In retrosoberspect, that wasn’t such a great deal, considering I can go to Lew’s Grill & Bar in Waldo nearly any Saturday and get $1.25 draft beers. Still, it was cold, and the apps were delicious. If you order the nachos, get them with chicken, beef AND chili. Apparently you don’t have to choose one. Also, I highly recommend the fried macaroni and cheese wedges. Hello, fried macaroni and cheese! Make sure to eat them while they’re hot, and don’t dip them in the ranch… that’s an awful mix.

The Game(s): Yurple already gave a pretty good break-down of the football games. He was quite the schandenfreude when it came to Michigan game. One of our best friends is a huge Michigan fan, so he called to harass him within 5 seconds after the game was over, along with 20 other people. Of course my focus was the Missouri game. I don’t want to sound like Jason Whitlock or Jack Harry, but I have to complain a bit. Ultimately, a win is a win, and if anything, I should act happy for the benefit of the poor ISU fans, but come on…. The running game was non-existent, the red-zone offense was atrocious, and there were obvious discipline problems considering a couple of the penalties. Twice we were penalized for having too many men on the field, once for having 2 quarterbacks. “Hut, hut, hut, hut.” Well, at least we won, and we got the cup thingy. Without a doubt, the player of the game goes to Pig Brown.

The Closer: I closed off the night at Kelly’s in Westport, because I had to have Joe’s Buy the Slice. Pay no attention to that other post stating the pizza is lukewarm. Just take a lesson from the expert, order pepperoni (cheese if you’re watching your weight). Of course his was lukewarm. He ordered the pizza that no one orders. It had been sitting there too long. You have to go with the most popular pizza, as it’s always fresh… generally until 3 AM. My slice was one of the best and biggest pieces ever. I specifically recall P-Yet saying, “I have slice envy!” Rightfully so, Yeti.

The Quiz: Can you name 2 things wrong with this picture? I’ll provide the answer at a later date.
