With Kansas State not playing a game until a week from today, I’d figure I wouldn’t talk too much about the games coming up this weekend. But then last week the worst of the worst happened to Big 10 and it compelled me to peak at what the Big 12 had coming up this week. So I’m going to do my best to break down the games and hope to all that is holy that this Big 12 comes through clean. Continue reading Pick It And Stick It: Please Don’t Crap The Bed, Big 12→
And they’ll keep on fighting til the end. I’m back again this week to go over the day that was Championship Saturday. Watch me talk about Big 12, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Bedlam, Texas, ACC Championship Game, Florida State, Duke, Big 10 Championship Game, Ohio State, Michigan State, SEC Championship Game, Missouri, Auburn, Sugar Bowl, Kansas State, and BCS National Championship Game. Whoah man I hope you got to see the kind of football I got to see yesterday. It was all over the place and it was all super exciting. Rivalry weekend lived up to its name and I recovered just enough to talk about it. Watch me talk about Thanksgiving, Texas, Texas Tech, Oregon, Oregon State, Florida, Florida State, The Game, Ohio State, Michigan, Brady Hoke, Duke, North Carolin, ACC, Notre Dame, Stanford, Tommy Reese, Missouri, Texas A&M, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, BCS National Championship Game, Big 12, Baylor, TCU, Iowa State, West Virginia, Kansas, Kansas State, Jon Hubert, and The Sunflower Showdown. It’s Friday and it’s late. I successfully avoided Black Friday and took the brunt of Thanksgiving yesterday. I took a day off yesterday and am now finally recovered enough to spit out my finger pickin’s flakes of college football destiny. Thanksgiving was a day for family and this weekend it’s been a family of rivalries. Heck I’m watching the Civil War at the moment (that’s Oregon vs Oregon State). We get more rivalries tomorrow and it’s time to give thanks and give picks to see who comes out on top. Continue reading Pick It And Stick It: It’s For The Birds→
Last week was rough. For lots of reasons. Tailgating as hard as I did last weekend has left some lingering effects. There’s also a sprinkle of great games from Thursday through Saturday. So I decided that this week, it will be some major home spectating. It’s a weird week for me anyway because this is the first Thanksgiving I’ve had away from home. Hopefully I won’t miss Mom’s stuffing too much. Let’s check out the games.
It’s Halloween weekend (-ish, it’s on Monday) and the weather is finally starting to reflect that down here in Austin. I have to get used to it being hot rolling into late October. This weekend has a big ole cold front blowing through and I’m already feeling the chills. That’s the sign on fall that I need and it fits right in the super creepy Halloween theme. The action of the field and on the Pick It and Stick It is still smoking hot. Keltron3000 is breaking away from the pack but others are hot on her heels. Kansas State is up for the game of their lives, well more like the game of the year, as they host Oklahoma. So grab some Candy Corn and let’s check out the picks: Continue reading PIck It and Stick It 2011 Week 09: This Is Giving Me Chills→
That’s right, I’ll be on a plane shortly but I want to get the picks up for the week. It’s hard to stay focused with the Big 12 in legal gridlock. You know, I thought professional wrestling was soap opera for guys but now I know that college football realignment is the real deal. No offense to the WWE, but this stuff is way better than the scripted stuff I used to watch. So as the conference turn, get your picks in and hope for the best.
Yes, it’s the 2010 edition and first ever annual KC College GameDay Year End Reviewards! What’s a revieward? Welp, it’s a half assed attempt to round up the year in review and then dole out some nameless awards out to who or what I think mattered in the year of college football. It applies to the regular season only as I really don’t want to come back to this. At any rate, I’m shooting from the hip so all you midgets our there better watch your heads.
Is it me or has this season become anti-climatic? After last weekend, we have the Big 12 North pretty much locked up and we might as well call the Big 12 South. So as I see it, Nebraska will face Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship Game. Now, unless something goes crazy, what else is left for the season except bowl games? Oh, well we have some rivalry games left. That’s a good thing. You know what else is a good thing? This week’s Crib Sheet:
The BCS Standings are out and it’s time to start wiping away the competition. Oklahoma and Missouri will lock horns tomorrow to find out who will be worthy from the Big 12. We also have LSU battling Auburn for SEC worthiness. The pretenders are wiping away and it’s all downhill for the road to the BCS Championship Game. The pretenders will also start wiping away in our Pick It and Stick It challenge. Let’s take a look at what’s on the windshield for this week.
So another week came through and we have the same story as last week. Yup, the picks this week weren’t as good as the picks for the first week of Pick It and Stick It. What does that mean? It means that the 2nd lowest score drop takes effect next week. All the standings are same except for JOOSE, who upped his points to a more respectable 370. So the stage is set. Movement will happen soon. Check out the standings first:
In continuing with our homage to March Madness Mascots, this week’s entrant supports a team that recently ran over the the Duke Blue Devils. This blog is all about football, but we’re not so naive enough to wonder what that accomplishments. So in reward for achieving that impressive feat, we are going to be looking at the University of Maryland’s Testudo. We’ll take a look at the bronze buddy and the fabric counterpart in this trip down mascot lane. We’ll find out first and foremost, just what the hell a Testudo is along the way. So poke your head out for Testudo!
Some weeks, you don’t know what you’re going to run into when you pick a place you’ve never been to before. So when we strolled up to Birdie’s Pub and Grill, we weren’t expecting much. They didn’t have a website and the only information we got about the place was on Google Maps. Walking in, however, things turned completely different. Yes, it was bigger, but for some aspects it wasn’t necessarily better. The goal of the week was to watch some Nebraska vs Virginia Tech and head to a BBQ. We accomplished the mission. Here’s the report.
This week’s barspot brings a suburban locale. Usually in suburbs around this time, you smell the freshly mown lawns and the first scents of fall. You even hear the birds chirping. In that spirit, we will watch the action at Birdie’s Pub. Um let’s see here. Another way to think of this place is that we are going to a golf players fantasy sports bar. So while we see the golf season wind down, we can see the college football season pick up. Okay, now we’re just blabbing on. We really don’t know what’s in this place because we’ve never been there before. Hopefully, the local crowd won’t chirp to much while watching the games. We also hope that Birdie’s does better than par for the barspotting course. Now bring on the beer cart babes.
Notes: Alrighty some of the better games are happening tonight and tomorrow. The Georgia Tech and Miami game should be good but we’re not sure if a fight will break out or not. We know the Battle for the Milk Can can be rough and it’s up to Fresno State to spoil Boise States frothy pour toward BCS busting run. The Governor’s Cup is up for grabs when Louisville heads to Kentucky. Too bad both programs are a little blah right now. Kansas will handle Duke better than the basketball contest. The O-Rourke-McFadden Trophy (a leather helmet) is what Boston College and Clemson will be shooting for Saturday. The Trophy first showed up just last year. Missouri will roll. Florida will take out its frustrations on Lane Kiffin’s smack talk against his Tennessee team. In what will be the game of the week, we will see two great defenses pound on each other with Nebraska going to Blacksburg to take on Virginia Tech. Due to a scheduling difference, Texas Tech agreed to play Texas this weekend. For us it means an early treat and a revenge game for the Longhorns’ Colt McCoy. UTEP and New Mexico State ride the Battle of I-10 to vie for the Silver Spade. Finally we get Kansas State heading to UCLA. So the starting QB is out with a broken jaw and 4 other players are suspended from UCLA for this game. I still think this game has home victory written all over it.
We were very skeptical when we strolled toward the Johnny’s Tavern setup on the corner of the Power & Light District in Downtown Kansas City. We’ve been to a couple of placesaround there before and the experiences were weak. We had some hope, however, as Johnny’s Tavern came through for us before. After spending the afternoon there we can say it is the best bar in the district. The food was great, the poker game was loads of fun, and the games on the screens were stellar. If you own or work at a bar around that area, read on to see how to make it successful.
