Purple Yeti Roar 82: Running Scared

runningscared

Two weeks to go and there’s one last trickle of non football stuff to talk about before the start of the college football season.  Yup, it seems the NCAA and its member schools are running scared from this autograph thing.  I’ll talk about that, Tulsa, EA Sports, SEC, Big 10, Big 12, Missouri, James Franklin, and Gary Pinkel. Purple Yeti Roar 34: Week 02 Recap is Jamacain Spice VooDoo

I come to you a little late and recovering from the spicy voodoo that was week 2 in college football.  My Kansas State Wildcats surprised everyone, including me, by blowing out the Miami Hurricanes.  The rest of the Big 12 was ho hum and I even got to see the SEC look a little silly.  All that and some tasty buffalo wing reactions coming up.  Quick apology for the quiet audio as well. Purple Yeti Roar 27: A Cold Wind A Blown’ From Up North

It’s getting chilly down here in Austin in the middle of July.  Wah, you say?  Yes, but not that kind of chill.  It’s the kind that’s blowing over college football and it’s coming from Happy Valley.  This week I try to stay warm and protected from the goings on at Penn State as well as talking about Joe Paterno, Jerry Sandusky, NCAA, Iowa, Big Ten, SEC, Big 12, Missouri, Gary Pinkel, Kansas State, and Collin Klein.

Purple Yeti Roar 14: Welp Baseball Is Done So Watch More Football

The Royals tanked hard in Kansas City, so why not hang out with me as we get ready for some football?  Sure, it’s all talk and no play but better no play than terrible play.  This week I talk Arkansas, Kansas, Charlie Weiss, Notre Dame, Ireland, Navy, Jessica Dorrell, Bobby Petrino, USC, ESPN, Oregon, Tha tweed, Texas A&M, SEC, West Virginia, Gary Pinkel, and Missouri. Crib Sheet: The Chips Have Fallen Into the Bowls

The teams have been announced that cards played out on the table.  The big hand is lame this year but the side bets are sexier.  That’s right the regular season is over and now we are flipping over to bowl season.  There were some snubs as usual, but the Big 12 lineup of bowls still looks pretty strong.  The Cotton Bowl is right up there with the BCS bowls in terms of interesting match ups.  Kansas State vs Arkansas, or Big 12 vs SEC, like it should be.  Call your bets and flop on over to this week’s Crib Sheet.

Crib Sheet: Twas The Night Before Thanksgiving

And all through the house, pumpkin pie was baking and I was aroused (with hunger).  Yup, it’s that time of year again.  This year, I’m planning on laying back and actually watching some competitive football.  For once it will be both for the NFL and college football.  So there’s been a feast of news leading up to turkey day and I wrapped it up in a big ole slice of Crib Sheet.  It’s kinda like fish and chips, but with college football news and less of stink.  I hope.  Here is this week’s fresh Crib Sheet:

Cuatros Makes It Count

It has been a long time since I’ve seen some rain.  I would’ve never thought that it would take this long living down here in Texas to see a downpour.  What’s even more incredible is that this here downpour came in the middle of a barspot that featured an outside patio for most of the bar!  That’s right, Cuatros was the place to be last Saturday and I had the opportunity to watch some football both inside and outside.  So, yes, I got a little wet but it was totally worth it for the great time that I had there.

The Heartland Had Heartpounding and Heartbreaking Action

So I’m running a little bit late today but as soon as I hit the front door last night, I got kicked in the face by the awesome weekend.  Yes, I flew back home to Kansas City for the weekend.  The main goal was to have great quality time with friends and family.  The secondary goal was to watch some fantastic college football.  Mission accomplished on both, especially for the three football games.

Crib Sheet: Conference Armageddon Again

You know, I was hoping the big news of the week would be the start of the college football season.  The only thing that could overshadow it was Texas A&M leaving the Big 12.  Welp they announced their intention to do so.  Now that it’s official, the Big 12 must look to expand, which is more than what they did last year.  Everyone is saying that BYU is the most likely candidate, and they are being very careful with their words .  Even though they have been talking with the Big 12.  Will it happen?  Who knows, but there will be a boatload of speculation in the meantime.  Well and Oklahoma is looking to take the lead in blowing up the league.  Let’s hit up the Crib Sheet while we wait: Continue reading Crib Sheet: Conference Armageddon Again

Crib Sheet: Media Day Menagerie

Oh yeah lot’s of squawking and a talking this week.  Media Days are here and the Big 12’s focus this year is the Longhorns Network, not the impending doom of the conference.  Although some would say that the network is the started of a long doom for the conference.  This week’s Crib Sheet delves into that as well as the usual news items that comes across my desk.  So let’s dig in:

Mascot Monday: Rocky the Rocket

Sometimes you need to be obvious about your mascot name.  Sometimes you just have to have some dude out there instead of the actual mascot.  In this week’s Mascot Monday’s case, sometimes you need both.  The Toledo Rockets fly straight out of the MAC and have been piloted by Rocky the Rocket the whole time.  We’ll fly into space this week and come back with a little video game nostalgia.  Those in the know will know where I”m going with this. Crib Sheet: It’s Starting to Get Drafty In Here

The NFL Draft is coming up quick, no matter how weird it is, and will blow by even faster.  This week’s Crib Sheet is just as windy.  And it’s almost as windy as the weather is outside in the KC metro area.  Hold on tight:

Crib Sheet: Winter Break

This Purple Yeti is too busy chopping wood for the fire to bring you much for the rest of January.  Look for some new giblets starting February.  In the meantime, I have the Crib Sheet to you warm.  Check it out:

Crib Sheet: McRib the Vote

In the wake of one of the most massive events in history ever yesterday, not the election but the reintroduction to the McRib, I have yielded time to this week’s Crib Sheet introduction.  Ronald McDonald Bless America:

Crib Sheet: College Football Prime Time

Finally the wait is over.   Tomorrow night we kick off another great year of college football!  It’s been what seems likes ages since the end of last season and now we have another year of the most pristine competition we’ll ever see on the field.  Sure the offseason provided plenty of drama, with coaching changes and conference expansion, but we’re done with the talking and we’re ready to strap it on.  The helmet that is.  So here’s the last Crib Sheet before the new season:
