Pick It and Stick It Final Standings 2010

It was an anti-climatic weekend and an anti-climatic end to this year’s Pick It and Stick It.  We had some small pickings for the last week and that helped solidify the victory for Huskers All the Way.  Even though the football team lost the Big 12 title to Oklahoma, Huskers All the Way held onto the lead and rode out the clock.  With the last weekend of football we’ll also have your final BCS Standings for the year.  No surprises there but we’ll get to the after we check out the final Pick It and Stick It standings.

Pick It and Stick It: Snot Rockets

The Big 12 used to be known for high scoring shoot outs. This year sees a return to defense as either the stars moved away to the NFL or schools coached up their kids. The only two top 10 offenses in college football this year that come from the Big 12 are Baylor and Oklahoma State. Guess who happens to play each other tomorrow? That game will be a shootout and is for the top spot in the Big 12 South. This year is turning out to be majorly weird. Don’t let that vex you as we set you up for this week’s Pick It and Stick It.

Stadiumspotting: Lawrence Bekons Again!

You’d figure I would be done with road trips, but thanks to the love of my life and her blue and red colored company, I’m heading out yet again for another round of Stadiumspotting. This time again it’s in Lawrence and I will bear witness to another two teams looking to rebound from losses. Last week it was Kansas in that very stadium that took a beat down from Kansas State. They will host Texas A&M, who were pummelled to pieces by a tough Missouri team. More than likely the Aggies will beat up the deflated Jayhawks on their homecoming but the last time that was said the Jayhawks upset a ranked team. You just never know.

Pick It and Stick It: Letting It Run Down

Another Friday and another day after for me and some Stadiumspotting.   Last week didn’t go to well for me but this week was the complete opposite.  The college football season is full of ups and downs and it can change every week.  With this weekend, we will be about halfway through the football season.  The time is running down for more great games and for even more great picks.  The field’s thinning at the top and the clock is starting to run down.  Let’s go over this week’s Pick It and Stick It to see how the downs can turn into ups:

Stadiumspotting: Thursday Night Lights

This will be the first off day stadiumspotting for us and we’re super excited.  Kansas State hosts Nebraska for probably the last time ever and they are both undefeated.  The electricity will be huge in the Little Apple and we will be there to cover it.  Chances are we will make our way back to a bar Saturday but we’ll go ahead and tweet the location when we decided where.  Until then, it’s half day action at work then a split time of driving and football watching.  This Purple Yeti is more than pumped for the biggest game of the year for the Wildcats.

Tailgaters Sports Cafe Shuffled Us In and Out of Minneapolis

Okay so this will be a lil weird.  Barspotting found me outside of Kansas City again Saturday for the second week in a row.  This time, I was in Minnesota.  Minneapolis to be exact.  So prior obligations held me up north and by some crazy chance I was able to stumble into a sports bar up there to catch at least one football game.  Among the lessons learned on this trip was that regional football coverage can sometimes cramp your football watching style.  Well that and onion rings alone can be pretty tasty.

Pick It And Stick It: Gopher More

Okay so in case you’ve heard we are heading up north.  Yup, it’s gonna be chilly but hopefully not as chilly as some of the picks we have this week.  There’s only 25, our lowest of the year so far, and we’re feeling the pinch of lower confidence points.  Pick well, every one.  Dig down deep and go for more.  You’ll need to be spot on for this set and probably the rest of the sets.

Magnifying the Expansion Part 2: History Lesson Time, Kids

Yesterday we laid the groundwork for the expansion drama that’s girdling up the loins of college football at the moment.  Today we are taking a look at how the history of the Big 10 led us to this point.  There’s over 100 years of data to go over, but we are blowing through the earliest parts and focus on the last 20 years.  Expansion is in the blood of the Big 10 and they’ve acted on it.  They tried many times and failed but were able to pull one team in the fold.  So let’s ring up the good Doctor and fly away in the TARDIS back to the start of the Big 10.

Crib Sheet: Tis the Season

As expected, there is a ton of news this week.  Conference championships are over, coaches are fired, kids are leaving for the NFL, and the bowls are lighting up.  Here’s this week’s Crib Sheet while we go do some Christmas Shopping:

Pick It Standings Week 12: Gobble Gear Up

22_turkeyeating_3_lg

It’s a short week here as we’re are in training for Thanksgiving Thursday.  We thought about calling up Mark Mangino to help us train but we don’t like being verbally abused and we most certainly don’t want him to hog all of the food.  So here we are stretching and exercising for the marathon of food we get to sprint through.  A couple of things to note in setting your eat order is:  Do you use dark meat or white meat?   Are you a gravy fan?  Pumpkin or  Apple pie?  These answers can lead you to the top of the glutton mountain and be crowned the Feast King.  Now here’s the Pick It and Stick It standings:

810 Zone Dishes Out a Pricey Time

Finally, the KCCGD has come BACK to Leewood, Kansas!  Okay, we’re not too much into old school wrestling references, but we had to set the tone on how we felt within the walls of the 810 Zone.  We all aren’t wrestling fans and we don’t live in trailers.  In fact we’re pretty normal.  But compared the crowd out there, we certainly felt that way.  Even so, we ended up having a pretty good time.   Our wallets felt the pain however.  So did the Kansas State Wildcats as they tried to win the Big 12 North against Nebraska.  Oh the times we had.

We Peeped Hooter’s til we were Pooped

Saturday was the big day.  We’ve been to a couple of chain restaurants before but this one was different.  This was Hooter’s.  We knew everything they were pushing.  The place started with girls first, then everything trickled down from their cleavage.  Hooter’s believes it also makes a great spot for a place to watch the game.  So last Saturday was the day to put it to to the test.  The test subjects included some great rivalry match ups, including the Red River Rivalry.  Let’s see what Hooter’s brought us.

Scoreboards Sent Us Home Alive but Hurting

We did our best to avoid the blast impact of Farmegeddon 2009 and with your help we landed in the bunker that is Scoreboards Bar vs Grille. Scoreboards tucked us away very quietly while we watched the action exploding on the screens. In times of catastrophe, one can’t be concerned of amenities. They must be concerned for survival. Well, we survived Scoreboards. From patching together tvs, to working with outdated accommodations, we walked out of disaster with no scratches and sore backs. Hey at least the food exceeded our expectations of canned beans and cracker jacks.

Barspotting: Pointing to the Scoreboards

scoreboards

This week finds us in the middle of Johnson County and at a neat little place called Scoreboards.  We’ve been there before the blog started off and we’re pretty sure it’s a good time.  There used to be a Scoreboards in Manhattan but we don’t think it’s the same bar.  Sometimes sports bars survive on their own without a website, but we think these guys could use one.  It was super hard to find a pic or logo of the place.  Maybe we can open up a KCCGD hosted space for bars around the area.   Or post some ideas for Scoreboards below and we’ll talk to the manager Saturday.

Johnny’s Tavern has the Power and the Light

We were very skeptical when we strolled toward the Johnny’s Tavern setup on the corner of the Power & Light District in Downtown Kansas City.  We’ve been to a couple of places around there before and the experiences were weak.  We had some hope, however, as Johnny’s Tavern came through for us before.  After spending the afternoon there we can say it is the best bar in the district.  The food was great, the poker game was loads of fun, and the games on the screens were stellar.   If you own or work at a bar around that area, read on to see how to make it successful.
