Welcome to the final Pick It and Stick It standings for the year of 2009. It’s been a wild year and we learned a couple of things from it. Forgetting a week is killer and next year, we’ll set it up so we can knock off the lowest scoring week. This will help out and maybe even save some things from the holidays or championship week. We also learned a little bit on how to play against the spread. Our recommendation to whoever wins the league (we’ll find out after the break) is to take that winning style to a bookie and spread out some small cash around next year. That is, if you are the gambling type. Speaking of which, we’ll also go over the prize and how we are going to deliver it (or not).

Championship Week was about as sparse as the holiday weekend.  A couple of people forgot to make picks.  When you looked at how many picks were available though, it wouldn’t have made a dent anyway.  This is where dropping off the lowest scoring pick would help.  At any rate,  there were no consensus correct picks over the weekend.  The close games and upsets accounted for that.  Nobody called the East Carolina or Washington upset.  Very ugly indeed.  The Purple Yeti came out on top for the weekend for the third time this year with a measly 30 points.  His Pittsburgh pick helped out on that.

So here it is, the final standings.   Even winning the last two weeks didn’t help out the Purple Yeti as he finished in 6th for the year.  Technically it’s out of 10, but 3 other people quit during the year.  Maybe Next Year takes the bottom spot as a missed week and poor performance led to that.  The lesson here is if you miss a week, you will end up on the bottom.  If these guys even averaged out a score for the week, they would be at the top of the league.  Katpak quit late and still takes 5th,  The King of Pop Had A Va-J-J petered out at the end and lands 4th.  Krizzou with a late season charge bronzes out the third.   KSU finally makes a bowl again comes up short and much like Kansas State, barely misses the top of the division.  Finally, Mangino is FAT!! takes over the top spot and wins out for the year.  Congratualtions to him.

So that wraps up a great year of Pick It and Stick It.  Next time he is out with us, we owe him a big ole Das Boot from Lew’s Grill and Pub.  We’re not sure yet when he’ll be around in town, but a tasty 80z of glass beer keeps us happy and we’re sure it will keep him happy.  There’s still some action left, however.  The bowl challenge is coming up and we’ll keep you posted on that as it happens.  Thanks to everyone who participated and check back next year for another exciting Pick It and Stick league!
