A very special lady sprung on me some tickets to the Kansas State and Nebraska game going on tomorrow. So we’ll do some Stadiumspotting there as well get you stoked for this week of football. First thing is first, though. This week’s Crib Sheet goes over some of the hottest news items of the last week. We have some spicy giblets ready to feed ya and then we’re gonna get the car ready for the impromptu road trip. On to the sheet:
- The Big 12 schedule for the next couple of years is upon us. Out is Farmageddon and some other teams will be playing on the road for back to back years. That said, it looks pretty tough up and down. I also dig the fact that every team plays on the same week. Makes for easier fan scheduling.
- Oklahoma player Jaz Reynolds got suspended after Tweeting out a taunt to all the Texas fans last week. Twitter is nice to let your feelings out, but the public nature of it means everything you say will be seen.
- With 35 bowls on the docket, some rules will be broken to let in some schools with even records as opposed to losing records. The last thing the NCAA/Bowl people can correctly do is make sure a team with a losing record does not go to a bowl. That would be absolutely ridiculous.
- Looks like resigned coach John Blake from North Carolina got paid by some sports agent during his tenure for the Tar Heels. Now we know why he quit the job. I wonder how many other coaches are on the snide to some sports agent pocketbook? You bet that the ones that are now will be cleaning up financials like no other in the next couple of weeks. Meanwhile Blake’s attorneys say that they were loans. Yeah right.
- Another Mizzou legal issue. This time it’s defensive lineman Jimmy Burge for having an open beer while driving. Yeah it’s not much but you gotta wonder if the Columbia Police Department isn’t specifically going after these guys for some quota action.
- So AJ Green got in trouble for selling his jersey, welp it likes like only colleges can do this. Nebraska will put some up online for auction. Um, hypocrisy much? Let the kid make some extra cash.
- If we don’t get the classic rivalry for the Big 12 Championship game, we may get it in 2021. That’s what talks have been about for a couple of games between Oklahoma and Nebraska.
- It’s the 20th anniversary of the 5th Down and a couple of people talked about. Missouri got hosed on that big time and every Colorado fan should thank the terrible officiating at the end for their national championship.
- Looks like the rumor mill churned up a TCU to the Big East nugget. Travel will be about the same for the team if they stay in the Mountain West or make the jump. Either way, they will dominate.
- Meanwhile, the WAC might be interested in Montana. Expansion stops for nobody.
- Back to TCU, they are petitioning to keep two live horned frogs as a live mascot of the school. When a school wants to use a live animal as a mascot, I say the more the merrier.
- The Michigan Giant Killer Appalachian State may make the jump to FBS competition. You know, they’ve been at the top of the FCS for so long, it might be worth the jump.
- We do agree with Kyle Ringo about the Colorado Buffaloes fans storming the field after beating up on SEC scrub Georgia. Come on, kids. Act like you’ve been there before.
