Tumblweeds a Rollin’ and Arizona’s a Blowin’ for Some Wild Midwest Action

Arizona’s Neighborhood Grille & Bar

In the haze of a mid October sun, the KCCGD wagon train rolled up to the wild west of Shawnee, Kansas to watch some ball at Arizona’s Neighborhood Grille and Bar.  The rustic setting of the place provided a decent setting for the shootout that was to become.  There were some disappointments for the day, including the saloon we witnessed them in.  But we buckled down, circled the wagons, and set up post for some college football.

Zoned Out on Wings and Football

810 Zone Inside

There was another notch in the belt of football gouged in over the weekend and I it was great to see football back, even though the magic wasn’t quite there.  The 810 Zone on the Plaza was where we kicked off another year of the greatest tournament ever.  Upsets happened, big plays zapped across the screens, and wings were eaten.

Johnny On The Spot Reminded Me Of My Young Yeti Cave

I was running a little behind this week, so after popping into Toto’s for a 5 shot Depth Charge, I ended up thinking of a black hole. Driving to Johnny’s Tavern confirmed that for me. I grew up around that area, but Corinth Square had no footprint in my memory. It all seemed new even though I used to live so close to it. With Johnny’s being a KU bar, I continued the black hole idea by doing the first natural reaction this Yeti has with KU stuff: going to the bathroom.

I Went Down to the Crossroads, Fell Down on My Knees

Pulling into Westport, I couldn’t help but wonder what else could happen while on KCCGD assignment. The sting of day’s events so far revealed itself in broken pieces on my bumper leftover from some dingus backing into my car at 7 Eleven. That little reminder laughed at me as I walked by it while I made my way toward the barspot. Kansas State football hit the crossroads earlier today and took a wrong turn. But I was at Westport and not in Crossroads district. And this was Harpo’s.

The Ron Prince Stomp

The phone was ringing off of the hook (or vibrating in my backpack) as I was walking out of the gym. Saturday was the big day and all of my purple friends (including Krizzou believe it or not) were trying to get a hold of me for the big K-State versus Texas game. The plan was set and I was running a little behind. I popped home, scribbled some phone numbers down, did a couple of Yeti-administration tasks, and hit the road. I was expecting a good time, but what I got was a blow out of awesomeness.

Two clears, three reverses, and college football trumps

Well, I’m a little late in getting the post up, but when you’re weekend involves carting a bunch of drunk people to IHOP at 3:30 am, you’re gonna end up behind on a couple of things. You know, I didn’t have anything to eat to over there for the first time ever. I guess in the haze of all of the craziness, I knew I had to save some room for the crow I was about to eat over the first ever weekly pick bet. I did make up for the lack of flapjacks, however, for some tasty cheese fries at the Fox and Hound.

Don’t Stop Believing (as sung by Boomer)

I can’t believe I struggled out of bed at 7:30 am Saturday morning to go hit the gym before rolling off to another bar for college gameday. I actually spent about 2 1/2 hours there, which I would never have imagined doing 2 years ago. 2 years ago, I would sleep in because of all of the massive partying I did the night before. Now I’m on the elliptical watching ESPN College Gameday (not to be confused with our blog), rocking out to some Jet and plotting the day. I never would have imagined that the day would be full of more surprises and more parties than I expected.
