I was running a little behind this week, so after popping into Toto’s for a 5 shot Depth Charge, I ended up thinking of a black hole. Driving to Johnny’s Tavern confirmed that for me. I grew up around that area, but Corinth Square had no footprint in my memory. It all seemed new even though I used to live so close to it. With Johnny’s being a KU bar, I continued the black hole idea by doing the first natural reaction this Yeti has with KU stuff: going to the bathroom.
Here is another set of picks for the week. So far, Krizzou is Krizzillin’ the competition. It’s been so bad, as a matter of fact, that the President of KCCGD fired the Athletic Director this week. Let’s hope Coach Yeti and other participants get their act together. Happy Birthday to Keith Jackson by the way as he turned 79. Probably one of the best announcers out there. And now it’s a FUMMMMBLLLE to the picks….
When: Saturday, October 20 2007 Where: Johnny’s Tavern – Prarie Village Location, 8262 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS 66208 Time: Krizzou is in Columbia for some Homecoming thing or something. The Purple Yeti will show up sometime after 11 am.
Okay, I got it. It’s actually Lew’s GRILL AND BAR. I realized yesterday that I switched the names on my posts. Cut me some slack though, as both types of web addresses go to the same page. And please ignore the image clearly pointing out the correct name on the barspotting post. Everything fumbled around Saturday. More undefeated teams were upset, unlikely teams were left undefeated, and I had to wear a wretched KU shirt.
Here we go with another week of picks. Why Digging For Gold Saturday? Because it’s a better sounding label compared to Gut Check Saturday or Rivalry Saturday. I mean seriously, you don’t need to label a weekend to make it more marketable. College football speaks for itself. Continue reading Pick It N’ Stick It: Digging For Gold Saturday→
Time: Looking at 11 am for the Yeti, but more than likely sometime before the Mizzou watch party at 3:30 pm. Not sure when Krizzou’s gonna be there but I know she’ll start some chants sooner or later. Continue reading Barspotting: I Like Lew’s Behavior→
Welp, the week so far started out real crappy. The KU fans at work came out from under the rocks to talk weak smack. I gave KU its cred, ate some crow, and told them to watch out for basketball this year. Michael Beasley is my boy! Even if it is for just one year. So, after ducking into my Yeti-cube, I needed a quick pick me up and found Bofa D’s Guide to Strange College Mascots.
Yes, at least I can pour salt on the Cornhusker fans. Bofa says Lil Red looks like a Big Boy rip off but I say he kinda looks like a wang. I mean that in the most heterosexual way possible. Seriously, though, Lid Red is weak as a mascot. I can’t talk much, seeing as Willie the Wildcat is a cat head on a human body. But he does look a helluva lot tougher than any of the area mascots. Whatcha think?
Pulling into Westport, I couldn’t help but wonder what else could happen while on KCCGD assignment. The sting of day’s events so far revealed itself in broken pieces on my bumper leftover from some dingus backing into my car at 7 Eleven. That little reminder laughed at me as I walked by it while I made my way toward the barspot. Kansas State football hit the crossroads earlier today and took a wrong turn. But I was at Westport and not in Crossroads district. And this was Harpo’s.
Here are this week’s picks. Once again it’s by the spread finalized on Wednesday of this week. We pushed last week so hopefully this week we’ll have a clear winner. I’ve already received plenty of emails this week about the rivalry, so maybe wearing the other teams colors would be a good choice for the loser. Once again, post comments to let us know. So I was out with my fellow Yetis from work at Applebee’s when low and behold we walked into what looked like an attempt and being almost sports bar-like. It was the one over in Overland Park by I-35. We walked in and they had big flat screens covering their inner bar area. Plus, they had ESPN, Fox Sports, and even the NFL Network on there! Granted CNN was on too but we’ll forget about that. The signal quality was bad so the pictures were kinda flakey.
The other real interesting thing was the Sprox Soundog setup they had there. The Soundog was this little contraption on the tables that you turn on and then punch the number that correlates to the number on the flatscreen and you can pick up the audio for it. It’s a pretty neat idea but for real sports bars, it might be drown out by the game of the week playing over head. At least it makes a pretty cool fart noise when you first turn it on and keep it real low.
The phone was ringing off of the hook (or vibrating in my backpack) as I was walking out of the gym. Saturday was the big day and all of my purple friends (including Krizzou believe it or not) were trying to get a hold of me for the big K-State versus Texas game. The plan was set and I was running a little behind. I popped home, scribbled some phone numbers down, did a couple of Yeti-administration tasks, and hit the road. I was expecting a good time, but what I got was a blow out of awesomeness.
After watching this video, I have to admit that was all tickly and pumped. Still am. But it also made me think of why I went to K-State and how fortunate I was to be there for the greatest turnaround in college football history. Basically, it was a good engineering school (especially for the price) and 2 of my 3 older brothers went there (why KU bro? WHY?). Watching that video made me realize just how lucky I was.
Here we go again on another week of Pick It n’ Stick It. We’re gonna try something different this week as we are picking games using the spreads for yahoo sports on Wednesday. It should make things a little closer and more competitive. Speaking of competitive, I guess I did lose last week so I tomorrow I’ll make due on the loser bet.
