Here’s the updates to the pick it and stick it set. The picks were more even this week as things are beginning to iron out in the top 25. Still, there may be some upsets lurking here and there. Okay, so I know the SEC has about 5 teams in the top 10 but what’s up with the Auburn vs Mississippi St game?
Chris Todd pitched a complete game and so did Wesley Carroll in a losing effort. I could find any stats as I’m wondering how my hitting did on my College Football Baseball Fantasy Team performed. What I did find is a history of 3-2 scores in College Football. Note the epic battles of Kansas State versus Iowa State in the 1920’s with the Cykes winning both struggles. I wonder if we’ll see that at Arrowhead.
One of the bigger games of the week happened the previous night with KU narrowly losing out to South Florida in an exciting game. Too bad I didn’t pop out to see it because I was holed in waiting for the tornado sirens to blare down for the evening. So strolling into Maloney’s Saturday morning, I figured that the much of the severe weather was over. After watching the games, however, the natural disasters were all over the place. So I’m sitting here listening to the what will probably be the best game of the week, KU and South Florida tied at 34 with under a minute and KU with the ball, and I’m wondering why college football deemed the USC vs Ohio State game the Collision at the Colosseum? Going over the barspotting post, it looks like it should be Rivalry Week. Iowa vs. Iowa State, Texas vs Arkansas, Notre Dame vs Michigan. Those are big time games. Granted UT and Ark got moved because of Ike and the Domers against the Wolves isn’t nearly what it was, but it seems like those handful of games should at least match the big time game Saturday night. I know one thing, I’m glad I’m not at The Other Place again because I don’t think the Iowa fans in the area can handle another loss to the ‘Clones. So what was up with the excessive celebration call at the BYU vs Washington game?
I’m not sure which is more hilarious, that Jessie “The Body” Ventura was doing color commentating or that people are forgetting that the kick was BLOCKED. Sure every sports mouth out there is screaming ref murder because they punished the kid for rocking out too much, but if they would have protected the kick and hit the extra point it would have been moot.
The unusual thing is that it went against the home team at the last second. Every person related with football knows that calls can go against you that seem chinsey. They will then point out that any team shouldn’t put themselves in that position in the first place. Of course, spectators toot a different horn.
The overcast clouds could only hint at to what was to come for another day of college football as I pulled into the parking lot Saturday morning. For some teams, the rain was hard and heavy. For others, it was destination cloud nine. The warm comfort of Danny’s Bar & Grill covered me as I was covering them. Isn’t it ironic? Don’t ya think?
Welp the first ole official like point checking pick it and stick it has arrived. This is what the participants think for the grandaddiest of all weeks of football. WEEK 2! Most of the games are weak except for the bump ECU got from beating Va Tech. Um, yeah West Virginia should handle them. Hey the weekend was so great and football was so much that I punted the Pick It and Stick It last week. So in short, lazy form. Here’s the standings. Please note we are doing the default Yahoo College Pick ’em League and I’m essentially cutting and pasting. My fingers thank me later.
So sometime before the Saturday games I should have what we actually picked up. In the meantime, I gotta call my bookie and fire him. Sheesh, what a crappy week pick wise.
There was another notch in the belt of football gouged in over the weekend and I it was great to see football back, even though the magic wasn’t quite there. Finally, it’s here! After longing through boring ass basketball, unheard of hockey, loser baseball, and a fart in the wind called the Olympics, the real sport of men has arrived! Yes, it’s even more important than professional football. And after the spring football, the media days, the cuts, the hype, the talk, we arrive tonight for the start of college football. I’m about to head out Tanner’s in Lenexa to enjoy multiple of games of what will be more than likely blowouts but I don’t care.
Trekking around the Kansas City area for the first year of the KCCGD blog last fall, I’ve seen many ups and downs for the K-State Wildcats. Well, down for losing to Auburn, up for beating (owning) Texas, and all downhill from there. So rolling into this year, I would have to say that expectations are a little lower. Albeit it’s not as bad as some other publications state, K-State might actually make a bowl this year. All with the help of some major talent pump. Let’s take a look at the Wildcats.

I was bumping out to California to see my big brother, Purple Baldy Yeti, for a little R&R before strapping down for the college football season.
