Oklahoma is the new number one and the bowl schedule is set. Some say Texas got bushwhacked in the decision making process, and I’m not sure if the argument is there. Yes, head to head was a Texas win on a neutral field. But with the provision in the Big 12 stating that it goes to the BCS rankings, Oklahoma is on top. You’re gonna see that rule changed shortly after the end of the season. Maybe even shorter if the Sooners lose and the Longhorns win. But what about Texas Tech? They were in it as well. The argument was base off head to head but the Red Raiders beat the Longhorns. Where is their say? I think people forgot. Which is why the head to head argument is weak when its three teams. So the BCS rankings take the role but the Big 12 should’ve been consistent and had the rule the other leagues had. Hopefully the decision proves right for this year and both Texas and Oklahoma win their BCS Bowls. In the meantime, here’s the Pick It Standings:

So Cabbottmtf had the Virginia Tech Hokies winning over Boston College in the ACC Championship game and that was all he needed to win the week. Krizzou is still on vacation but narrowly averted a late comeback from the Purple Yeti. Here’s your final standings for the Pick It and Stick It league. Congratualaitons to Cabbottmtf as he earned himself a picther of beer the next barspot he makes out. Pick It’s not over yet, as details about it will come out Friday. That’s right, Bowl Pick ‘Em. Get ready as there is a gajillion bowls and Yahoo! will keep track of all of them. We’ll post standings and so forth and probably lob up another pitcher as the prize. Good luck! Speaking of luck here’s the final BCS Standings:
The last regular season barspot brought us to the Granfalloon. The Big 12 Championship game pitted Missouri versus Oklahoma and we wanted to celebrate the pagentry with the lights of the Plaza. It was a cold evening and traffic was a holiday shopping nightmare, but we braved the conditions and made our way in. It would take a Christmas miracle for Missouri to win and we felt the mojo would be had at the Granfalloon. Continue reading The Fools Stayed at the Granfalloon→
Here we go into the last week of picks and its rather anti-climatic. Not only for the Pick It and Stick It season, but also for the Championship games. The Mizzou and Oklahoma game was hyped up big as a rematch at the beginning of the year. After the Tigers choked off a couple of games and the Sooners backed their way into the title game, it seems more of a like chore now than it does a big match up. Maybe KU beating Mizzou last week had something to do with it. At any rate, the focus will be on the SEC title for the day and I somehow wish that they swapped times to save the better game for the last of the evening. Though really the last game of the evening is Cinncy at Hawaii and I’m not sure advertisers would like the time slot. Well at least we have a whole seven picks for this week. Here they are:
This week, we’re making a quick pit stop the Granfalloon. The only memories I remember of this place is being a crowded multi room bar. After further inspection on their website, it seems like they have a pretty good amount of HD flat screens for barspotting. So why not give it a shot. The Big 12 Championship is at 7pm so hopefully we squeeze on in there. This is the last barspot before bowl season, so we hope it’s a good one.
Another week of football and there wasn’t much to choose from Top 25 wise. At least rivalry week kept the competitive juices flowing. And per the Yeti’s lady’s suggestion, we were letting the juices flow at Jaywalkers. It was an all day affair with a college like air, and we took full advantage of all they had to offer. What hoped to be a great day of football turned into a great day of hanging out at the bar. Continue reading Small Time Jaywalkers for Big Time Fun→
Jaywalkers just happens to be a Kansas University bar. No really. So what better time of the year to hit up the place then when the Jayhawks have the week off? As noted before, we love irony here at the KCCGD and we are game to keep in motion. Their website says they are the best Big 12 sports bar in KC and we’re gonna put that to the test. Who knows? Maybe they will prove to be numero uno. There’s one thing for sure, the Purple Yeti is eyeballin’ that big ole Sweet 16 burger. When: Saturday, November 22, 2008 Where:Jaywalker’s Sports Bar & Grill – 3916 Rainbow Blvd, Kansas City, KS 66103 Time: 11 AM Sharp – There’s some huge rivalries going on Continue reading Barspotting: Chanches are We Won’t get Ticketed at Jaywalker’s→
In the haze of a mid October sun, the KCCGD wagon train rolled up to the wild west of Shawnee, Kansas to watch some ball at Arizona’s Neighborhood Grille and Bar. The rustic setting of the place provided a decent setting for the shootout that was to become. There were some disappointments for the day, including the saloon we witnessed them in. But we buckled down, circled the wagons, and set up post for some college football. Continue reading Tumblweeds a Rollin’ and Arizona’s a Blowin’ for Some Wild Midwest Action→
So the Yeti picked up his bro Sasquatch from the airport today and on the way home, there was a special trip to Arthur Bryant’s. The Squatch purposely starved himself to enjoy some great KC barbecue and was ready to tear into it right as we drove off from the drive thru. That got the Yeti thinking. Sometimes when you are around great food you can take it for granted. Football around the KC area can be thought of in the same way. Even though the pro teams are stale like week old bread, the college football around the area is meaty and can be easily put away as leftovers. Sometimes it takes an out of towner to help realize just what kind of full force meal we feast on every Saturday in the Big 12 in the KC area. Here are the picks: Continue reading Pick It and Stick It: Good Football is Like Good Barbecue→
This week’s barspot takes us to the western side of the KC area at Arizona’s Neighborhood bar. I’ve been there a couple of times and I’m looking forward to going back. The biggest game of the weekend starts out early Saturday morning, so be ready for the lul in the afternoon. It’s kinda like the lul in great western movies that we are going through. I still stand by my postulation that Tombstone was the last great western. Y’all are welcome to correct me. When: Saturday October 11, 2008 Where:Arizona’s Neighborhood Bar – 7182 Renner Rd Shawnee Mission, KS 6621 Time: 11:00 AM Sharp Continue reading Barspotting: The Wild West Comes to the Midwest at Arizona’s→
The turbulent economic turmoil faced in this great nation has finally trickled down to all that is near and dear to our hearts here at the KCCGD. Much like the market, many high stock football teams tumbled over the weekend and panic is pulsating through the minds of many a sports junkie. Looking at this week’s standings, we can see that Cabbottmtf is turning into the Warren Buffett of pick ’em with yet another consistent week while Krizzou makes up a step with some apparent wisdom from Alan Greenspan. The Purple Yeti? Well, it seems he was too busy checking out Sarah Palin’s ass. Somebody bail him out STAT.

As for hot button topics from the weekend, we’re gonna roll through it O’Reilly/Colbert/Olberman style:
Gary Chandler from K-State was arrested Saturday for driving with a revoked license. The former Big 12 defensive newcomer of the year, apparently lied to the cops and then came clean about his name in the process. Now being an alum from the ‘ole KSU, all I can say is, “WALK! Everything is about a 15 minute jaunt from each other! DUDE!” Ron Prince gave Gary his walking papers until his legal troubles are fixed and my guess is this incident will tacked on to Prince’s dossier. The case for delivering Ron Prince’s walking papers at the end of the year is quickly stacking up.
The toast of college football this week is the BIG 12! That’s right, 3 of the top 5 are Big 12 boys will Oklahoma, Missouri, and Texes rocking it respectively. The Big 12 blogger Tim Griffin pointed out this morning on the ESPN College Football Insider Podcast that all of the ranked Big 12 teams (6) are facing the unranked teams to start out conference play. Chances are we’ll get at least one or two upsets.
While the Yeti was busting a sweat tonight at the gym, a large barrel chested man sporting an Oklahoma football shirt was squeezing out a quick spin on the bike. Yeah, so what? Welp, the Yeti also follows pro football and he just had to see the start of Monday Night Football. After popping on the game, Oklahoma decides to switch up and run the elliptical. But instead of choosing the machine in front of the game, he squats right down on the one in front of Dancing With The Stars! That alone tells me that the Sooners will have at least one loss and just may miss the Big 12 Championship game.
