J. Murphy’s Brings Out the Irish in Every One

Western Europe meets the western Kansas City area as we trucked way the heck out to Shawnee to view Saturday’s selections at J. Murphy’s Irish Pub and Grille.  The games lined up for the afternoon seemed like a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.  The traditional fare sprinkled the joint so well we were waiting for a Contra Dance to bust out.  And the food, well the food was all it was cracked up to be, Irish wise.  But there was so much more than really cheesy Irish references (which we will stop as of now) at J. Murphy’s.

It’s not Atlanta, but We’re Doing the Dirty Birdie’s

Some weeks, you don’t know what you’re going to run into when you pick a place you’ve never been to before.  So when we strolled up to Birdie’s Pub and Grill,  we weren’t expecting much.  They didn’t have a website and the only information we got about the place was on Google Maps.   Walking in, however, things turned completely different.  Yes, it was bigger, but for some aspects it wasn’t necessarily better.  The goal of the week was to watch some Nebraska vs Virginia Tech and head to a BBQ.  We accomplished the mission.  Here’s the report.

GameDay: Follow Us on Twitter

twitterkccgd

We’re getting all cleaned up and strapped up here at KCCGD headquarters and we’d figure we’d drop a quick game day note.  As you may have noticed, we are upgrading things around here, one of them being our Twitter integration.  If you aren’t familiar with Twitter, it’s basically a mini broadcasting site that lets you say random, tiny things to people who want to hear it.  With that in mind, we are blasting game day tweets all day and invite you to follow us while we marvel at Saturday’s special event: college football.  Here’s our Twitter account:

We’re almost ready to kick things off and if you can’t be there in real life, at least you can be there in real time.  Oh, and if you are an SEO specialist who promises to make me millions, please jump off a cliff.   We take special enjoyment out of blocking your types.

Sunflower Showdown 08: From Fuzzy to Sharp to Fuzzy to OUT

As you may have noted above, it’s the first video recording from my trusted Sony Cybershot DSC-W120 and what better place to do it than the Sunflower Showdown.  To correct myself, Kansas State played Kansas for the 106th time at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, Kansas.  The courtesy tent we started out in foreshadowed the day as we tailgated our way to another glorious set college football games.  The fog from the morning lifted for the game, but our own fog soon returned.  This was a road trip to remember, sorta.

Barspotting: Stadiumspotting Sunflower Showdown Style

Memorial Stadium

Yes it’s road trip time for some of us here at KCCGD.  Look for some tailgating wackiness and a healthy dose of live football video action this weekend as we hop on a bus and make way for Memorial Stadium.  It’s Sunflower Showdown time as the Kansas State Wildcats travel to Lawrence to take on the Kansas Jayhawks.  Both teams took a whooping last week and really lost in the same style:  giving up the ball.  We here at the KCCGD won’t turnover the coverage this weekend as we look to see some sweet pre-game action and pray that this week’s game is a little more than competitive.  At any rate, it should be a blast and am sleeping just a little extra this week in preparation of a rockin’ good time.
When: Saturday, November 1st 2008
Where:  University of Kansas Memorial Stadium1000 W 11th St Lawrence, KS 66045
Time: 9:30 AM – We hope to see you tailgating out there!

Zoned Out on Wings and Football

810 Zone Inside

There was another notch in the belt of football gouged in over the weekend and I it was great to see football back, even though the magic wasn’t quite there.  The 810 Zone on the Plaza was where we kicked off another year of the greatest tournament ever.  Upsets happened, big plays zapped across the screens, and wings were eaten.

Barspotting Live: My Apartment?

Hey it’s BCS Championship time and I’m staying in for the festivities. The teams are taking the field and I’m staring at a coin toss coming up. It’s been a better regular season so I’m hoping the Big Game can make up for an otherwise lackluster bowl season. I’m still surprised KU won the way they did. Anywho, click on more and refresh the page for updates.
