The alumni crew were coming out of the woodwork for the week’s blogspot. Mucho mojo was needed to help push K-State over Texas Tech and going to the Manhattan homestead of Kite’s (or at least the KC Area version) was part of the mix. We were definitely intent on reliving the magic of college as well as the magic of last year’s blogspot with K-State over Texas. What we learned, however, was a controversy that must be addressed with a call to action to K-State fans everywhere. We’re bringing the SALT this week so here we go: Continue reading Salty Tasting Kite’s And Purple Yeti Yapping→
One quick note before the Saturday spot. The ole KCCGD crew is heading out to Kite’s (formerly Rusty’s Last Chance) to watch K-State vs Louisville. Freeman got some front page love yesterday on espn.com as the Big 12 Blogger Tim Griffin talked about Josh being up there as one of the league’s best quarterbacks. He also picked the Wildcats with the shnide over the Cardinals. It’s on the road but they travel well and Louisville may be out a couple of offensive linemen for the game so I’m with Tim and giving the Yeti Schnide to K-State. Here’s Saturday’s spot:
One of the bigger games of the week happened the previous night with KU narrowly losing out to South Florida in an exciting game. Too bad I didn’t pop out to see it because I was holed in waiting for the tornado sirens to blare down for the evening. So strolling into Maloney’s Saturday morning, I figured that the much of the severe weather was over. After watching the games, however, the natural disasters were all over the place. At least Maloney’s was a tiny comfort riding the day out. Continue reading Sopping Wet Still From Football And Some Stromboli→
There was another notch in the belt of football gouged in over the weekend and I it was great to see football back, even though the magic wasn’t quite there. The 810 Zone on the Plaza was where we kicked off another year of the greatest tournament ever. Upsets happened, big plays zapped across the screens, and wings were eaten. So I’m sitting here on the couch contemplating getting ready for the New Year’s Eve rounds I’m making when I realized, “Hey I haven’t posted to the KCCGD in awhile!” Believe it or not, I actually did watch college football in the last month and yes I did go to some bars. I fell off the wagon with holidays and what not and I’m getting a head start on my resolution: posting more to the blog! So, in the offseason there’ll be some new additions and news posts and any other junk that fits our little world here. But for now, I missed a month of football news/updates so I’m about to unload, shotgun style: Continue reading Ending the Year on a High Note and Some PBR→
When: Saturday, December 1st Where: Mcfadden’s Sports Saloon, 1330 Grand Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64106 Time: After Noon. Literally. After 12:00 pm and before it gets crowded.
The Purple Yeti likes to take one weekend out of the year to relive what it’s like in the Little Apple and last week it was time to make the trip. The garage door opening up was new to me as there was much change from what I was used to back in the Yeti days of Wildcat prominence. Please note that the smoke you see was from Chase and Co. smoking K-State on the field.
I was running a little behind this week, so after popping into Toto’s for a 5 shot Depth Charge, I ended up thinking of a black hole. Driving to Johnny’s Tavern confirmed that for me. I grew up around that area, but Corinth Square had no footprint in my memory. It all seemed new even though I used to live so close to it. With Johnny’s being a KU bar, I continued the black hole idea by doing the first natural reaction this Yeti has with KU stuff: going to the bathroom.
Okay, I got it. It’s actually Lew’s GRILL AND BAR. I realized yesterday that I switched the names on my posts. Cut me some slack though, as both types of web addresses go to the same page. And please ignore the image clearly pointing out the correct name on the barspotting post. Everything fumbled around Saturday. More undefeated teams were upset, unlikely teams were left undefeated, and I had to wear a wretched KU shirt.
Here we go with another week of picks. Why Digging For Gold Saturday? Because it’s a better sounding label compared to Gut Check Saturday or Rivalry Saturday. I mean seriously, you don’t need to label a weekend to make it more marketable. College football speaks for itself. Continue reading Pick It N’ Stick It: Digging For Gold Saturday→
October 11, 2003, Missouri vs. Nebraska, was perhaps the most exciting Missouri game I’ve ever witnessed. It was a cold rainy day, and Missouri trailed 24-14 in the third quarter. However, the rain and cold went unnoticed as Missouri outscored Nebraska 27-0 in the fourth quarter; thus, breaking a 24-game losing streak and beating a then Top 10 team. Since then, the Tigers have successfully beaten Nebraska at home, and Saturday was no exception…. Continue reading ESPM? Booo… YAY!!→
Time: Looking at 11 am for the Yeti, but more than likely sometime before the Mizzou watch party at 3:30 pm. Not sure when Krizzou’s gonna be there but I know she’ll start some chants sooner or later. Continue reading Barspotting: I Like Lew’s Behavior→
Pulling into Westport, I couldn’t help but wonder what else could happen while on KCCGD assignment. The sting of day’s events so far revealed itself in broken pieces on my bumper leftover from some dingus backing into my car at 7 Eleven. That little reminder laughed at me as I walked by it while I made my way toward the barspot. Kansas State football hit the crossroads earlier today and took a wrong turn. But I was at Westport and not in Crossroads district. And this was Harpo’s.
