My body is still out of whack due to the daylight savings time change Sunday. Hey, at least I got an extra hour of sleep work in. It seems like some people around the college football landscape are also adjusting. Who knew that the loss to Kansas coupled with the time change forced Colorado to fire Dan Hawkins? That and many more half-asleep wackiness on this week’s Crib Sheet. Read on, my friends, read on.

Pick It Standings Week 10: The Downhill Turn
We’re getting into the downhill stretch for the season and it’s time for the frontrunners to clear out the pack. We’ve got it in the BCS but not so much in the Pick It and Stick It. The weekend’s events made it clear that if two teams win out, it’s all theirs, with others waiting in the wings. On the pick side of thing, I still don’t know what the hell is going on with the scoring system. It’s almost like the BCS. Let’s take a look at both.

Lazy Saturday for Lew’s
Another actual barspot and I’m keeping up on the known favorites with Lew’s Grill and Bar. I’ve been here a couple of times and have begun to become a regular here. They’ve upgraded the televisions and also the food. The day of football was long and fun, so I was glad I got the sweet spot for watching in the bar. Regarding the action on field, we saw some tight games and some surprising blowouts. It was a lazy day, but it sure was a weird one too.
GameDay: Waking Up Early
Before college football, I would never make it out of bed before 10 AM on Saturdays. Nowadays, I’m up and around at the gym before 10 AM so I can squeeze in a workout before the games. Does getting older mean getting up earlier to be able to watch more football? Or is it just the fact that there’s so much football, they have to cram it in between all the cracks of the non work schedule? Any way I look at it, I know I will slugging down more coffee to keep up. Getting older is fun.
Pick It and Stick It: Snot Rockets
The Big 12 used to be known for high scoring shoot outs. This year sees a return to defense as either the stars moved away to the NFL or schools coached up their kids. The only two top 10 offenses in college football this year that come from the Big 12 are Baylor and Oklahoma State. Guess who happens to play each other tomorrow? That game will be a shootout and is for the top spot in the Big 12 South. This year is turning out to be majorly weird. Don’t let that vex you as we set you up for this week’s Pick It and Stick It.
Barspotting: Settling In At Lew’s Grill and Bar
This year has been reunion tour at home and new bars plus stadiums on the road. So to continue that tradition, this week’s barspot will be at Lew’s Grill and Bar in the Waldo district. I haven’t built up the courage to double pop collars at The Well yet, so I’m heading back to a comfy place that’s just right with sports watching. Since the last time we’ve been there, they’ve introduced Das Boot. Yes, the boot featured in the number one hit smash comedy Beerfest. So look for a pairing with that bad boy. There’s also some great game pairings on tap as well. Get ready to chug the football.

Crib Sheet: McRib the Vote
In the wake of one of the most massive events in history ever yesterday, not the election but the reintroduction to the McRib, I have yielded time to this week’s Crib Sheet introduction. Ronald McDonald Bless America:
- With the historic win over Oklahoma, Missouri gets the coveted Peace Pipe. You know, the somewhat annual trophy given to the winner? Welp, apparently even the two teams forgot about it and lost it. You know a rivalry is lopsided when that happens.
- Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon ended up with a suspension for the Kansas State game last Saturday. That’s what happens when you drink and drive, kids. It didn’t really stop the Cowboys, though, as they throttled the Wildcats.
- The Big 12 suspended Nebraska’s Eric Martin for last Saturday’s thumping of Missouri, due to a helmet to helmet hit. Do you see a pattern here? Meanwhile, Gary Pinkel wants the conference to review a hit that fellow Cornhusker Courtney Osborne put on Tigers quarterback Blaine Gabbert. If the conference follows through, then look for Nebraska to win this weekend against Iowa State.
- The Big Sky Conference just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Now North Dakota and Southern Utah will be joining the fold starting in 2012. Look out Pac 12!
- Notre Dame student Declan Sullivan died after injuries received from a blown over video tower. Look for the school to either ban it or put in a more permanent solution.
- Missouri won’t press charges against the 30 fans that were arrested after they stormed the field in their win over Oklahoma. That’s a good thing. The Tigers don’t often get the chance to make the field storm-worthy so you need to allow it when they do.
- Paul Rhoads is turning things around at Iowa State and now he will help turn on a new scoreboard, along with a bunch of sports complex projects. They are upgrading everywhere in Ames. Hopefully some of that money will go to better flood protection, too.
- Will Ferrell said on ESPN College GameDay that, “It’s scientific law that Baylor cannot beat Texas at Texas.” Baylor ended up winning that game. I’m betting Ferrell picked USC to win over Oregon as well. Those are some funny pics.
- Expansion, as we have learned, is never done. The Big East will get on the expansion bandwagon as they voted to expand to 10 teams at board of director’s meeting Tuesday. Who will they grab? Notre Dame of course.
Pick It Standings Week 09: Another Halloween Candy Hangover
Yesterday was the first Halloween at the new place and I have to say that the trick or treater representation was mega weak. Me and my lovely lady had two big ole bags of variety candy and we only about 5 kids show up. As of right now, we are through one bag. I’m not sure I can make much more as the thought of gnawing down another Charleston Chew is starting to make me sick. There was plenty to be sick about for college football around the Kansas City area as well as the Pick It and Stick It sets so let’s bring a glass water for this

The Brooksider Let Us Down
So I’m sitting here on Halloween Sunday watching a bit of The Evil Dead and I wished that I was doing that yesterday instead of hanging out at the Brooksider. The former barspot of the year is on the last lap of some renovations and the changes were not all for the good. Me and my crew headed out there for some Missouri and Nebraska action and we went away with a let down feeling in our stomach. The feeling was both for the game and the bar.
GameDay: It’s A Playoff Every Week
I’ve been hearing for the last week or two about “Which #1 will go down this week?” Do you really hear that in any other sport? Sure, you may in college basketball, but you don’t in the NFL, MLB, or even golf. The reason why is simple, college football is a playoff every week. If we go to an actually off-season playoff, this will go away.
Pick It and Stick It: It Hardens When It Gets Cold
Chilly times are ahead folks and its time to wrap yourself up into some nice and tasty picks. This week sees some hot action on the cold, cold fields of Lincoln, Nebraska. Will Missouri continue to roll or be tripped up by the scrappy Cornhuskers? No matter, we’ll be staying warm the best way we know. Hot chocolate helps. So does coffee or fried mac n’ cheese wedges. I’ll probably have all this Saturday. Grab your favorite warm-upper and check out the picks for the week. Remember, he colder and longer the season goes, the harder the picks get.

Barspotting: The Brooksider is for Big Games
Can you believe it? Yes, it’s a barspot this week! I’m finally done with road trips and now I’m ready to sit my behind down at a Kansas City bar and watch some great games this weekend. Missouri had a historic win and this weekend I feel like I need to throw all of my support behind the Tigers and watch the game at the legendary Brooksider. They have the biggest plasma screen television around and I’ll be there to watch that and the Kansas State game. Come on out and join me in the fun while we kick old stool.

Notes: You know, it’s kind of light week. All eyes will be on the Big 10 and Big 12 this weekend as the night games look pretty weak. First off the road to the Big 10 title still goes through Iowa as Michigan State looks to stay undefeated. It’s their 2nd time away from home and they barely escaped Northwestern last week.K This should be a close one. The one we’re going to see is Missouri and Nebraska. One on hand you have the Tigers coming off their biggest win ever and on the other you have a farewell tour of a team bolting to the Big 10. This one should be close too. Come on out Saturday and help us spectate.
Crib Sheet: Nice With Pumpkin Spice
Halloween is Sunday and we are cooking up various items around the place with pumpkin in them. The roasted pumpkin seeds with cinamon and nutmeg were awesome but so where the pumpkin muffins. Grab your favorite pumpkin related food and check out this week’s Crib Sheet:
Pick It Standings Week 08: My, The Mighty Have Fallen
This year seems to be the year for upsets and number ones going down . I just witnessed it, although not in person, with Missouri topping Oklahoma. I’m also seeing it in our Pick It and Stick It results. Three weeks have seen three different number ones go down. Will Oregon go down next week? How about Boise State, Auburn, or TCU? I don’t know and I don’t care. Right here, right now, is what makes college football so special. Revel in it and move because you won’t know what will happen next week. Just check out the results:

Stadiumspotting Has Hit the Lawrence Limit
Saturday was the third week in a row for Stadiumspottring and I can say that I’ve hit my limit. I love going out to games, but when the majority is for a weak and rebuilding Kansas football team, it makes it real hard to go back for more. The times were just different enough to make it stadiumspot worthy but I’m not sure I can hit up anything new until a bowl or Big 12 title game. I again enjoyed all that Lawrence has to offer, as well as the typical company sponsored feast. What put it over the top for me was hanging out on Mass street.
