Small Time Jaywalkers for Big Time Fun

Another week of football and there wasn’t much to choose from Top 25 wise.  At least rivalry week kept the competitive juices flowing.  And per the Yeti’s lady’s suggestion, we were letting the juices flow at Jaywalkers.  It was an all day affair with a college like air, and we took full advantage of all they had to offer.  What hoped to be a great day of football turned into a great day of hanging out at the bar.

Cold and Stiffed from the Quaff Makes for a Chili Day

The barspot this week landed us at the Quaff downtown.  The movement going on at the Power & Light district had a casualty in Tanner’s next door, so we wanted to hit the more established places next seeing as we hit up the flashy sports bars in the P&L.  It was a bittery cold day Saturday,  but the lukewarm games and warm friendship of buddies that dropped by, including Cabbottmtf, kept the time toasty.  Unfortunately, the service was ice cold and the Quaff is on the clock.

Sunflower Showdown 08: From Fuzzy to Sharp to Fuzzy to OUT

As you may have noted above, it’s the first video recording from my trusted Sony Cybershot DSC-W120 and what better place to do it than the Sunflower Showdown.  To correct myself, Kansas State played Kansas for the 106th time at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, Kansas.  The courtesy tent we started out in foreshadowed the day as we tailgated our way to another glorious set college football games.  The fog from the morning lifted for the game, but our own fog soon returned.  This was a road trip to remember, sorta.

My Mind’s Been Going Through Them Changes at Brooksider Bar and Grill

Brooksider Bar & Grill

The Brooksider was already packed when I strolled in last Saturday, mostly with KU fans.  The game was about to start and anxiousness was in the air.  The barspotting crew at KCCGD knows this feeling all to well, as we made a stop here last year.   This time around we were checking out the place to see what’s changed and whipping up some mojo for Krizzou’s Missouri Tigers.  There were changes at the Brooksider, alright, and there were unexpected changes on the field.

Tumblweeds a Rollin’ and Arizona’s a Blowin’ for Some Wild Midwest Action

Arizona’s Neighborhood Grille & Bar

In the haze of a mid October sun, the KCCGD wagon train rolled up to the wild west of Shawnee, Kansas to watch some ball at Arizona’s Neighborhood Grille and Bar.  The rustic setting of the place provided a decent setting for the shootout that was to become.  There were some disappointments for the day, including the saloon we witnessed them in.  But we buckled down, circled the wagons, and set up post for some college football.

Pick It and Stick It: Good Football is Like Good Barbecue

So the Yeti picked up his bro Sasquatch from the airport today and on the way home, there was a special trip to Arthur Bryant’s. The Squatch purposely starved himself to enjoy some great KC barbecue and was ready to tear into it right as we drove off from the drive thru. That got the Yeti thinking. Sometimes when you are around great food you can take it for granted. Football around the KC area can be thought of in the same way. Even though the pro teams are stale like week old bread, the college football around the area is meaty and can be easily put away as leftovers. Sometimes it takes an out of towner to help realize just what kind of full force meal we feast on every Saturday in the Big 12 in the KC area. Here are the picks:

Salty Tasting Kite’s And Purple Yeti Yapping

Kite’s Outside

The alumni crew were coming out of the woodwork for the week’s blogspot. Mucho mojo was needed to help push K-State over Texas Tech and going to the Manhattan homestead of Kite’s (or at least the KC Area version) was part of the mix. We were definitely intent on reliving the magic of college as well as the magic of last year’s blogspot with K-State over Texas. What we learned, however, was a controversy that must be addressed with a call to action to K-State fans everywhere. We’re bringing the SALT this week so here we go:

Ugly Joe’s And Jack’s And Jane’s With Stupid Shocking Games

Ugly Joe’s

Another stunning week of college football flew by and we here are the KCCGD spent most of the day just recovering.  Apparently the football gods forgot to tell the teams that upsets are supposed to happen one or two times per week.  What wasn’t very upsetting was our time with the folks at Ugly Joe’s.  Krizzou, Jolly, Tyson,  and company helped make this barspot one to remember.  So let’s piece together what happened.

Downtown KC, Small (Not Big) Willie’s Style

Willie’s

It’s another week of football down and it’s getting achingly close to conference play.  The day’s event took us to Willie’s next to the Power & Light district.  It was kind of a blah afternoon after football leading up to some major action for the evening’s games, much the build up of non-con games before the real meat of the conference ball.  At any rate we learned about premier teams, KU’s play, and some cottage fries.

Sopping Wet Still From Football And Some Stromboli

Maloney’s

One of the bigger games of the week happened the previous night with KU narrowly losing out to South Florida in an exciting game.  Too bad I didn’t pop out to see it because I was holed in waiting for the tornado sirens to blare down for the evening.  So strolling into Maloney’s Saturday morning, I figured that the much of the severe weather was over.  After watching the games, however, the natural disasters were all over the place.  At least Maloney’s was a tiny comfort riding the day out.

Zoned Out on Wings and Football

810 Zone Inside

There was another notch in the belt of football gouged in over the weekend and I it was great to see football back, even though the magic wasn’t quite there.  The 810 Zone on the Plaza was where we kicked off another year of the greatest tournament ever.  Upsets happened, big plays zapped across the screens, and wings were eaten.

Manhattan Isn’t What It Used To Be, And Neither Were The Wildcats

The Purple Yeti likes to take one weekend out of the year to relive what it’s like in the Little Apple and last week it was time to make the trip.  The garage door opening up was new to me as there was much change from what I was used to back in the Yeti days of Wildcat prominence.  Please note that the smoke you see was from Chase and Co. smoking K-State on the field.

Was it the pizza or being away that made me sleepy?

I was still kinda dazed pulling into the City Market Saturday heading toward another KCCGD barspot. The night before was a wedding rehearsal that the Yeti was fully in (it’s okay, it wasn’t my wedding). We had a big ole meal from Bucca De Peppo and it was just lounging in my stomach. I plowed forward and made my way to Minsky’s at the City Market.

Johnny On The Spot Reminded Me Of My Young Yeti Cave

I was running a little behind this week, so after popping into Toto’s for a 5 shot Depth Charge, I ended up thinking of a black hole. Driving to Johnny’s Tavern confirmed that for me. I grew up around that area, but Corinth Square had no footprint in my memory. It all seemed new even though I used to live so close to it. With Johnny’s being a KU bar, I continued the black hole idea by doing the first natural reaction this Yeti has with KU stuff: going to the bathroom.

That just happened! And now I’m all wet.

Okay, I got it. It’s actually Lew’s GRILL AND BAR. I realized yesterday that I switched the names on my posts. Cut me some slack though, as both types of web addresses go to the same page. And please ignore the image clearly pointing out the correct name on the barspotting post. Everything fumbled around Saturday. More undefeated teams were upset, unlikely teams were left undefeated, and I had to wear a wretched KU shirt.
