It’s a little late but I’m back for some predictions and nose flickings by the way of Pick It and Stick It. It’s been a roller coaster year for my team, Kansas State, but we also have some peaks and valleys for others. I’ll predict just what will happen going into the weekends with no accountability attached to it. Yes, I’ll talk about this week’s Game of the Century as well. Purple Yeti Roar 13: I Hate To Break It To Ya
Ahahah ho man. I couldn’t resist that pun for Alabama’s BCS Championship trophy breakage this week. There were other things going on as well. Among the other stories that broke (ba doom ching): Kansas and all it’s Domer Glory, the Cy-Hawk Trophy is back to being cool, Barry Sanders (I said Foster HA) comes back from my childhood, Tyler Lockett practices full speed for Kansas State, an Auburn fan gets punched, and Oliver Luck wants it big. Let’s shuffle through the damage. Continue reading Purple Yeti Roar 13: I Hate To Break It To Ya
Crib Sheet: It’s PMA Day
There could be a big ole disparaging parenthetical here about how the Big 12 will go away and how badly it will affect my peeps and schools back home around the Kansas City area, but I’m deciding that we’ll focus on the good things this week. Sure there may be moves, but our teams will play this Saturday and many Saturdays to come. Whether or not they will play for a national title might still be going away real quickly, we’ll get enjoy the regional rivals and funky inter-conference matchups. It’s time for some PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) and for this week’s Crib Sheet: Continue reading Crib Sheet: It’s PMA Day
The Heartland Had Heartpounding and Heartbreaking Action
So I’m running a little bit late today but as soon as I hit the front door last night, I got kicked in the face by the awesome weekend. Yes, I flew back home to Kansas City for the weekend. The main goal was to have great quality time with friends and family. The secondary goal was to watch some fantastic college football. Mission accomplished on both, especially for the three football games.

GameDay: Tradition Lost
The trip home is already turning out to be epic. Friends, family, and lotsa food did not do me wrong. It’s already been epic for college football, too. I just watch Iowa State and Iowa play an instant classic battling for the recently re-redesigned Cy-Hawk Trophy. That led me to wonder, with all of the new and improved conference realignment disaster, how will tradition be handled? Continue reading GameDay: Tradition Lost
Crib Sheet: Winds Of Change (Pocket) Blowing In Miami
This week’s drama is Miami and the Ponzi schemed Nevin Shapiro who was making it rain all over the place. Among the accused, two new Alabama assistant coaches, a former Husker, newly minted K-Stater’s Bryce and Arthur Brown, Missouri head basketball coach Frank Haith, and 15 current Miami players. This summer has been brutal for college football on the public relations side. It’s been all about the money and breaking the rules. It’s like NASCAR. Or worse yet, baseball. Winds of change will be blowing real quick. Maybe it means the players will finally get paid. On to the Crib Sheet: Continue reading Crib Sheet: Winds Of Change (Pocket) Blowing In Miami
Larry Bud’s Not Melman Makes Us Feel Warm and Dark
Deep in the wheat fields of Kansas sits a town by the name of Wichita. We find ourselves smack dab in the middle of the city doing a remote barspot. Larry Bud’s Sports Bar & Grill claims to be the best in the city so we stopped on in to check it out. We’ll find out just how dark dark can get. We’ll also find out how to do a pretty decent television configuration. Oh yea, we’ll also check out some great games all on at the same time.

Pick It and Stick It: Another Fresh One Off
Back again with another week of picks. You’d think we all would learn our lesson about off bets but low and behold Kansas had to come out of the gate in week one and prove us wrong. So be careful when you see the off bets this week as we may have another team fall asleep at the well. Let’s be clear, the Jayhawks fell asleep at the wheel. They will get better. This is college. Not all of the kids act like pros and get up for every game. So don’t be so sure about teams coming into this week. Every game counts, but kids will forget that.
So let’s start with the off bets. Virginia Tech will come off a tough loss at home with James Madison. Missouri will get a breather against McNeese State at home. TCU looks to keep the train rolling against Tennesse Tech. Finally, we have Kansas State hosting the Missouri State Bearcats. Okay, since Kansas was in the Big 12, I would say that Missouri and Kansas State has the best chance to lose this week. The best chance amongst off bets that is.
The rest of the games see a great chunk happening around 2:30. Michigan and Notre Dame relive the past again. Ohio State relives a title game with Miami of Florida. Same thing goes for Oklahoma and Florida State. The Cy-Hawk Trophy is up for grabs when Iowa takes on Iowa State. One thing is for sure, these games will not have the bets off. Make your picks people.
Barspotting: We’re Gonna Work the Straw in Wichita
Yup, you heard us right. It’s the first of what looks to be a ton of road trips for the KCCGD crew this year. The first stop is down in the heart of Kansas. We’ll be touring one of the best sports bars in Wichita, but we don’t kn0w which one just yet. We’ll have to wait for the locals to point us in the right direction. Let’s face it, no one else in the KCCGD viewing area will be out and about in Wichita so we’re not too worried. As of now, we are looking at some potential in Mulligan’s Pub, Larry Bud’s, Heroes, Players, The Fieldhouse, or maybe Emerson Biggins. We’ll tweet that out when we know, follow us @kccgd.

Johnny’s Tavern has the Power and the Light
We were very skeptical when we strolled toward the Johnny’s Tavern setup on the corner of the Power & Light District in Downtown Kansas City. We’ve been to a couple of places around there before and the experiences were weak. We had some hope, however, as Johnny’s Tavern came through for us before. After spending the afternoon there we can say it is the best bar in the district. The food was great, the poker game was loads of fun, and the games on the screens were stellar. If you own or work at a bar around that area, read on to see how to make it successful.

Barspotting: Johnny’s Tavern Tries to Save the P&L
This week we’re going back to the Power & Light District and more specifically Johnny’s Tavern. One of the other overly expensive bars there closed downand Johnny’s swooped in to take the torch. Now, we aren’t fans of the P&L, especially for sports, but we want to give Johnny’s Tavern a chance to totally save the day. Johnny’s Tavern is a namesake dedicated to sports bars, especially for the Kansas fans out there. So we’re sure they will make a decent attempt of fielding a proper sports bar Downtown. We’ve been to a different Johnny’s before so we are pretty sure we’re gonna have a good time. See you there.

The second week of college football has calmed down a bit. We needed it too, last weekend was a huge blast off and we need to clean the ash off our faces. This week is not without its sparklers, however. The Cy-Hawk Trophy is up for grabs again in the great Iowa vs Iowa State rivalry. It’s also been a long time since college football was as pumped as it is this year for the Michigan vs Notre Dame game. The only Top 25 meeting is USC vs Ohio State and it should be epic. The rest of the Big 12 looks like mop up work, but don’t be surprised if a few more upsets come that way. We’re looking at you Colorado and Kansas State. Anyway, it should be fun and we hope to see you out this weekend.
For what it’s worth, here’s the result of poll from the Facebook Fan page. Next week’s poll should be up alot earlier next week.
