Purple Yeti Roar 62: Johnny Twitter Advice

jftwitter

Hey!  I’m back this week and I end up actually spending most of my time on Johnny Football.  Okay, well more like how he quit Twitter and how you should use the social service yourself.  Trust me.  I’m an epxert.  I also BS my way through news like Sun Belt, Idaho, New Mexico State, Big East, Tulsa, Western Kentucky, Conference USA, and Cowboys Stadium.

Crib Sheet: Horned Frogs Homecoming

In today’s college football, things can change dramatically week to week both on the field and off.  One week, Missouri is leaving the Big 12 and will blow up the conference.  The next, the Big 12 invites TCU to  join to lock things up.   TCU head honchos met to make it a done deal.  They made the announcement Monday night.  I can breathe a sigh of relief because for the first time, the Big 12 will actually grow and Missouri should stay put for the rest of the year.  We’ll have to find out next week if something else that’s huge will go down.  In the meantime, here’s this week’s Crib Sheet:

Johnny’s Tavern Still Has the Power

It’s been almost a year since we’ve been to Johnny’s Tavern and it took the rest of the season for us to decide that it was the best Barspot for last year.  So, as tradition calls, we found ourselves back at Johnny’s Tavern at the Power & Light District to enjoy the first full Saturday of college football.  The bar hasn’t changed much but just enough for us to take notice.  The food specials knocked us out but the games were kind of so so.  Read on as we go over Johnny’s Tavern and recount the action on the field.

Barspotting: Johnny’s On the Spot Again

We are back again going out to the best of what Kansas City sports bars has to offer in terms of college football.  Like the storied tradition of college football, we have a tradition of going back to the best bar of last year to start out this season for KC College Gameday.  We had no way of knowing back at the beginning of last September that Johnny’s in the Power & Light would be the best but here we are planning the first Barspot of the year down there.  With every television fit into every nook and cranny as well as the crazy touch table poker game, Johnny’s hit the spot on all things needed for a great sport viewing experience.  So come back out with us Saturday as we head back out there to enjoy Johnny’s and scoff at that ridiculous KC College Live thingy going on in the outdoor area.

Mascot Monday: D’Artagnan and Blue Blob

This week we are going to look at the very opposite sides of mascotdom, all from one school.  We like to point out either how fierce a mascot can look versus how cartoony a mascot can look.  Both have its plusses and both have its minuses.  But what if you’re a school that wants to cover all of the bases when it comes to mascots?  Well, you do what Xavier did and have a mascot to fill each role.  Let’s take a trip down to Cincinnati, Ohio and check out Xavier’s  D’Artagnan and the Blue Blob.

Mascot Monday: Big Red

We’re winding down to the end of the off season and the end of our first foray into Mascot Mondays.  We have a couple of more to go before we pack the suit away in the trunk and turn off the lights.   But before we go away, we have a couple of more guys, er gals, er blobs to feature.  So this week we will take a look at one of the influences to this here series.  We’ve always known mascots to be fun and lovable while at the same time be fearsome and intimidating to opponents.  But every time we see Western Kentucky’s Big Red, we wonder just what the heck does this thing do?  We’ll try to figure that out on top of answering why he’s so dang popular.
