It’s Sunflower Showdown weekend! While it’s nice that Charlie Weiss is trying to get his Kansas kids up for the game and refocus rivalry juice toward Manhattan, Bill Snyder has been doing that exact thing for much of his tenure. But we can get into that later. There’s a wealth of great games this weekend both inside and outside the Big 12. Another year of Kansas State football is upon us and there’s some weird mixed feelings going on.   Maybe not in Manhattan, but certainly down here in Austin and in this Purple Yeti’s abode.  You see, part of me wants to believe that Kansas State will improve upon its amazing record from last year, but another wants to believe in the negative hype the so called sports media jams down my throat.  Is everyone writing off Kansas State too easily, or will reality hit hard for the little Wildcats from the Little Apple? A Better Big 12 For 2012

Ah yeah, the Big 12 is back baby!  Oh well, it didn’t really go anywhere.  Compared to last year, this offseason was a walk in the park.  Why is that?  Well, we have some new faces in the mix and some old faces hit the road.  I think truly for the first time in the last 3 years, there is some stability here.  That makes me happy.  What makes me happier is the new season so let’s see how this conference shakes out. I’m kicking of the festivities early this year and celebrating Independence Day a little early.  Why you ask?  Well, it could be that after all of the NCAA playoff announcements, Notre Dame will still be independent.  Or it could be Erin Andrews heading to Fox Sports to host a college football pregame show.  Or it could be that West Virginia and TCU are officially in the Big 12.  Nope.  It’s that Texas A&M and Missouri are gone from the Big 12.  Happy Days!  Time to celebrate with some Colorado Buffalo beer. Ahahah ho man.  I couldn’t resist that pun for Alabama’s BCS Championship trophy breakage this week.  There were other things going on as well.  Among the other stories that broke (ba doom ching): Kansas and all it’s Domer Glory, the Cy-Hawk Trophy is back to being cool, Barry Sanders (I said Foster HA) comes back from my childhood, Tyler Lockett practices full speed for Kansas State, an Auburn fan gets punched, and Oliver Luck wants it big.  Let’s shuffle through the damage. Purple Yeti Roar 06: Road to Recovery

I’m back and I’m better than ev….better than last week.  My cold is almost gone and I’m jumping out of my chair with excitement.  No it’s not the drugs, or TCU’s drugs, mind you.  It’s the fact that West Virginia settled their suit with the Big East and is officially joining the Big 12!  And if that didn’t get you jumping, too, then the released Big 12 football schedule for this fall should.  Yup, things are getting better everyday.

I barely made it through this week’s roar.  It’s turned into a meow.  I’m fighting a cold and will now go back to my lair and recover.  In the meantime check out my takes on the Mountain West merging with Conference USA, North Dakota State’s fightin’ name issue, and some playoff/expansion menagerie.  Oh it’s quite the trist.  It’s okay to watch, I washed my hands.   Just be sure to get plenty of fluids and rest.
