Pick It and Stick It: Flick Me A Winner

Here we go with another year of Pick It and Stick It!  This time I decided to go easy on people and not do confidence points throughout the year.  It was just too much beef to handle week in and week out.  So I cut that fat off and leaned it down to a tasty point spread straight up pick league.  You can drop two weeks so if want to join up please do so at:
If you got any questions, please feel free to hit me up.  Now let’s take a look at the first week’s pics:

Barspotting: Kicking Off A New Town of Barspotting at Doc’s Backyard

Alrighty, football is here and you know what that means: Barspotting!  For those of you not familiar with how Barspotting works, I basically tool around town and find places to watch college football then rate whether it’s worth it to check it out yourself.  This year will be different because I’m in a whole new town.  So I get to find a whole bunch of new bars review and also get the added benefit of finding my way around town.  The first ever Austin edition of Barspotting will feature Doc’s Backyard in Sunset Valley, well, because they are real close to me.  Not only that but they have a supposedly real tasty Chicken Fried Avacado.  Let’s check out Saturday’s lineup. Bowl Pick It and Stick It: Bowlnanza!

Here’s the first standings update for the Bowl Pick It and Stick It.  This time we’re mixing it up a bit and going for straight picks only.  Most of the time the match-ups in bowls are pretty even so it’s a gimmie on who will actually win the game.  I also beat up on people in the regular season with the confidence points addition.  We’ve had 3 games already so the pack is pretty tight.  The main course starts tonight so I’ll run down the games and blab about them as I see fit.  First, let’s go over the standings:

Crib Sheet: Anti-Climatic

Is it me or has this season become anti-climatic?  After last weekend, we have the Big 12 North pretty much locked up and we might as well call the Big 12 South.  So as I see it, Nebraska will face Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship Game.  Now, unless something goes crazy, what else is left for the season except bowl games?  Oh, well we have some rivalry games left.  That’s a good thing.  You know what else is a good thing?  This week’s Crib Sheet:

Pick It and Stick It: A Fresh Crop of Picks

Here we go rolling into another week of Pick It and Stick It.  The games are fresh this week and we are stoked about the upcoming Farmageddon happening right in Kansas City’s backyard.  Kansas State is a 3.5 point favorite over Iowa State and we can imagine that Daniel Thomas is the reason for the line.  Will we see the same outcome as last year?  Hopefully it will be just as exciting.  So far, Farmageddon delivers on quality.  Here are the picks:

Barspotting: Farmageddon At The Other Place

It’s amazing to think how long we have been doing this blog.  Three years.  That’s dedication, homes.  One of the very first places we barspotted was The Other Place.  It was a great time and now it’s time again to head back over there.  What better place to watch Farmageddon other than Arrowhead than deep into one of the few Iowa/Iowa State bars in the area.  Yeah, we could go to Kite’s or Lucky Brewgrille for the Kansas State side of things but The Other Place is so much better and it’s been a long time since we’ve been there.  So let’s re-live some good times and meet us out there Saturday to watch Farmegeddon blow us away.

Bowl Pick It and Stick It 2009: Chucking Gutter Bowls

Bowling_andrew134_web

Here we go!  Bowl season starts tomorrow and we got your Bowl Pick It and Stick It ready to go!  It’s the somewhat the same format as the regular season.  For each of the 34 bowl games, you will need to assign confidence points.  So for whoever you think will win the strongest, should get the highest confidence points and vice versa for the weakest.  What’s different is the you need to pick the winner straight up.   There is no spread points to play off of for the bowls.  So head on over to Yahoo! Fantasy Sports and sign up!  We’ll go over the bowls after break but first, here’s the info:

Barspotting: Stadiumspotting Returns to Lawrence

Memorial Stadium

But not for the Sunflower Showdown.  My beautiful and football lovin’ girlfriend is letting the Purple Yeti hitch a ride with her and her bid-ness down to Memorial Stadium for the big Oklahoma vs Kansas game.  Both teams roll into the game suffering a loss to Texas and Colorado respectively so one of them will bounce back.  Which one will it be?  We’re not sure.  How many of us will be sober?  Well, we know the answer to that one.  At any rate, we’ll report on every debaucherous action, on and off the field.

Barspotting: J. Murphy’s Law

jmurphys

So the voters spoke and we’re feeling Irish this week at J. Murphy’s.  It’s not March yet, but we have a feeling it’s going to end up like it by the time we get done here.  So let’s run down the stats on the bar.  Green decor. Check.  Beer (with Guinness).  Check.  Irish Whiskey. Check. Corned Beef and Cabbage. Check.  All football games. Check.  Looks like they meet the requirements for an Irish sports bar.  Come out with us Saturday to find out if the proof is in the Shepard’s Pie.  Erin go bragh!

When: Saturday, September 26, 2009
Time: 12:00 pm
Where: J. Murphy’s Irish Pub and Grill, 22730 Midland Dr, Shawnee, KS 913.825.3880

Games:

Notes:  It’s a somewhat of a trap game for Missouri as they head to Nevada Friday night.  Kansas hopefully will turn their punches toward Southern Miss and not the basketball team when they host the Golden Eagles.  Virginia Tech plays another game of the week when they host newly resurgent Miami.  The Illibuck Trophy is up for grabs as Illinois heads to Ohio State and hope for an upset like last time.  Speaking of upsets, Iowa hopes to do the same thing this year to Penn State like they did last year and derail their national title hopes.  The Shillelagh Trophy is up for grabs when the Fighting Irish take on the Purdue Boilermakers.  Texas Tech takes a long road trip to Houston and look to duke it out against the newly christened cinderella Houston Cougars.  Finally New Mexico and New Mexico State meet for the 100th time this weekend in the Battle of I-25 and the Maloof Trophy.
