Pick It and Stick It: It’s Drippy Season

Batten down the hatches, folks, it’s getting to be cold season.  The dripping and drooling will now have much more effect.  I started noticing it this week.  Some people had coughs and sniffles, others taking afternoons off.  I, myself, have some kind of weird chest tightness going.  Never fear, I just downed some Airborne infused OJ after soaking some Vitamin C Zicam.  It’s pretty much the opposite of Four Loko.  I suggest if you get the first signs of a cold, use that remedy.  Now on to the picks.

Barspotting: JJ’s Other Place Part II

Okay, I’m giving JJ’s Other Place one more shot.  They didn’t have power for our game last week, even though they were open that evening.  So I’m going back to give them a college try for this Saturday.  The morning games all suck, but once the afternoon hits we get some Top 25 clashes.  Let’s hope that they will have a enough juice for the week for use to enjoy at least one of those.  The backup plan, for the first time ever, is Lew’s Grill and Bar.  What can I say, it’s my new favorite place. Crib Sheet: Anti-Climatic

Is it me or has this season become anti-climatic?  After last weekend, we have the Big 12 North pretty much locked up and we might as well call the Big 12 South.  So as I see it, Nebraska will face Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship Game.  Now, unless something goes crazy, what else is left for the season except bowl games?  Oh, well we have some rivalry games left.  That’s a good thing.  You know what else is a good thing?  This week’s Crib Sheet:

Pick It Standings Week 11: Drawing A Blank

You know, I wanted to talk about something going on in college football, but I just can’t put my finger on it.  It’s on the tipe of my tongue and it’s some other cliched phrase as well.  Oh well, if I remember it, I will talk about it later.   We have some Pick It and Stick It to go over.  The polls had some changes at the top but the BCS didn’t really chamge much.  In the pick league, the top pretty much stayed the same as well.  Let’s look at the standings:

JJ’s Other Place Was Closed Due To Lack Of Power

No seriously.  KCP&L cut off JJ’s Other Place’s power and was closed for the day.  I was pumped about heading to my favorite hole in the wall to watch some sports but it was a no go.  They recently upgraded their televisions and now  I know where the money came from.  No worries, folks.  I won’t cut you off, but I may cut this one a little bit short.  Long story short, I went to Lew’s and watch Missouri trounce Kansas State.

GameDay: Money For Nothing

Okay, I have to take a couple of minutes to talk about the whole Cam Newton situation.  It seems like in the last couple of weeks, there’s been a vendetta against this guy.  Is it because he had a rough past?  Or is it because the SEC can’t handle other teams doing well?  At the end of the day, however, the discussion of players looking to get paid in college has come to a head.  What I say is that you need to pay the players, even with more stipend or a more comprehensive scholarship.

Pick It and Stick It: Wet and Moist

Rainy falls days make for some great college football talk.   This is the time of year when snow and rain play more into games on Saturday.  I talked about football weather before, but for some reason Kansas City has yet to see any kind of weather until now.  Maybe that makes up for the massive blast of cold and snow from last year.  Whatever it is, look for more slipping and sliding on the fields Saturday.  Also, look for more a slipping and a sliding on the picks this week.  We have about 30 games to chose from so confidence will play in heavily.

Barspotting: JJ’s Other Place To Be

So as I’m sure most of you have gathered by now, I live mostly on the Kansas side of the state.  What could be even more insightful is the fact that I tool around the Shawnee Mission area.  So, out of the goodness of my heart and the laziness of my butt, I will be heading to my favorite hole in the wall sports bar, JJ’s Other Place, for some Barspotting Saturday.  There’s a big local throwdown as Kansas State heads to Missouri and I want to conjure some magic I shookdown from the joint for Kansas State’s basketball tournament run.  It could be a blowout, or it could be close.  At any rate, I’ll be down in JJ’s town for all of the glory.

Crib Sheet: Still Adjusting To Time

My body is still out of whack due to the daylight savings time change Sunday.  Hey, at least I got an extra hour of sleep work in.  It seems like some people around the college football landscape are also adjusting.  Who knew that the loss to Kansas coupled with the time change forced Colorado to fire Dan Hawkins?  That and many more half-asleep wackiness on this week’s Crib Sheet.  Read on, my friends, read on.

Pick It Standings Week 10: The Downhill Turn

We’re getting into the downhill stretch for the season and it’s time for the frontrunners to clear out the pack.  We’ve got it in the BCS but not so much in the Pick It and Stick It.  The weekend’s events made it clear that if two teams win out, it’s all theirs, with others waiting in the wings.  On the pick side of thing, I still don’t know what the hell is going on with the scoring system.  It’s almost like the BCS.  Let’s take a look at both.

Lazy Saturday for Lew’s

Another actual barspot and I’m keeping up on the known favorites with Lew’s Grill and Bar.  I’ve been here a couple of times and have begun to become a regular here.  They’ve upgraded the televisions and also the food.  The day of football was long and fun, so I was glad I got the sweet spot for watching in the bar.  Regarding the action on field, we saw some tight games and some surprising blowouts.  It was a lazy day, but it sure was a weird one too.

GameDay: Waking Up Early

Before college football, I would never make it out of bed before 10 AM on Saturdays.  Nowadays, I’m up and around at the gym before 10 AM so I can squeeze in a workout before the games.  Does getting older mean getting up earlier to be able to watch more football?  Or is it just the fact that there’s so much football, they have to cram it in between all the cracks of the non work schedule?  Any way I look at it, I know I will slugging down more coffee to keep up.  Getting older is fun.

Pick It and Stick It: Snot Rockets

The Big 12 used to be known for high scoring shoot outs. This year sees a return to defense as either the stars moved away to the NFL or schools coached up their kids. The only two top 10 offenses in college football this year that come from the Big 12 are Baylor and Oklahoma State. Guess who happens to play each other tomorrow? That game will be a shootout and is for the top spot in the Big 12 South. This year is turning out to be majorly weird. Don’t let that vex you as we set you up for this week’s Pick It and Stick It.
