Kansas State Football Preview 2012: Always The Underdog

Another year of Kansas State football is upon us and there’s some weird mixed feelings going on.   Maybe not in Manhattan, but certainly down here in Austin and in this Purple Yeti’s abode.  You see, part of me wants to believe that Kansas State will improve upon its amazing record from last year, but another wants to believe in the negative hype the so called sports media jams down my throat.  Is everyone writing off Kansas State too easily, or will reality hit hard for the little Wildcats from the Little Apple? Pick It Standings Week 10: Yawnster of a Weekend

lady-yawning

We’re back this week with another round of Pick It Standings.  Not much of a shake up this weekend in terms of college football and it’s reflected in the pick set.  Really when you think about it, there was no real big upset over the weekend, unless you count USC falling down hard to Stanford.  Everybody else won as expected and they are turning to corner for the home stretch of the season.  This is going to be a tight one to the end, both for the BCS race and the Pick It race.  Here’s this week’s lap:

Pick It Standings Week 09: Candy Hangover

halloween_hangover

Halloween is over and we’re still feeling the hurt over the load of candy and Joose.  We rocked many parties and kinda wished we were at one that had Kansas State at Oklahoma on.  Oh well.  We are still enjoying the various fun sizes of candy.  Our favorites include Snickers, Butterfinger, and Milky Way.  But enough about candy.  We’re sweet on the Pick It Standings now.  We also have some tasty BCS standings to go over as the polls turned sweeter to some winning teams over some other teams that had some sour victorious.  Get your toothbrush ready, you’ll need it after this.

Pick It Standings Week 08: Post Traumatic Grill Syndrome

grill

Another week of football came and went and in between the drizzles, the greasy smells, the turning leaves, and bands hitting the bricks, we gots ourselves some pick it standings sizzling on the grill.  So let’s munch on these tasty numbers and see what they turn up.  Let’s hope they don’t turn our stomach.  No room for leftovers, however, as we are merely just practicing for Thanksgiving.  It’s still a month away, you know.

Another Lawrence Trip in the Bag

This is the second year in we rocked our KCCGD crew all the way out to Lawrence, Kansas and hit up Memorial Stadium.  The Purple Yeti’s wonderful girlfriend and her company provided the tickets and bus ride to watch Oklahoma take on Kansas.  The tailgate had the usual fair, all while we weathered the fair weather at the stadium.  That game itself was nowhere near fair and for the second year in a row, we left the stadium to go back to tent before the final whistle blew.  There were a couple of notable differences from last year but that didn’t drag us down for this year’s first edition of Stadiumspotting.

Pick It Standings Week 7: The BCS Baby is Born

bcsbaby

Whoah nelly what a smelly game the Red River Rivalry was. The bigger upset for the Big 12 was Colorado over Kansas over the weekend. Either that or Kansas State’s 62 point thumping of Texas A&M. At any rate, guess what? Those Wildcats happen to be first in the Big 12 North. Coming into the beginning of the year, no one expected Kansas State to be in that position or Oklahoma to have 3 losses hung on them by this time. Just goes to show that in college football, anything can happen.  More importantly this week, we have an expected birth of the first BCS standings.  First, here’s the pick it standings:

We Peeped Hooter’s til we were Pooped

Saturday was the big day.  We’ve been to a couple of chain restaurants before but this one was different.  This was Hooter’s.  We knew everything they were pushing.  The place started with girls first, then everything trickled down from their cleavage.  Hooter’s believes it also makes a great spot for a place to watch the game.  So last Saturday was the day to put it to to the test.  The test subjects included some great rivalry match ups, including the Red River Rivalry.  Let’s see what Hooter’s brought us.

GameDay: SEC is the Big Brother of College Football

littlebrother

Now this is a Big 12 and Kansas City blog but today we are going to dip into the hype and look at the SEC.   Everyone in the country says the Southeastern Conference is the best college football conference on the planet.  Many people, especially around here pooh-pooh that notion.  But when looking at the numbers and opening conference play this week, it’s kind of hard to argue against that.  The SEC has 4 undefeated teams.  Every other conference has at most 2 (including the Big 12 and the Big 10).  Now you might complain that the non conference schedule for the SEC has been weak, but they handled teams like Virginia Tech and the some what surprising Washington.  Even so, they didn’t trip up like the other conferences and beat the teams they are supposed to.  Yet they still get the ire of others.  That kinda reminds me about how little brothers look at big brothers.

Pick It Standings Week 05: Feeling Overhyped

song-chart-memes-striped-shirt

The non conference schedule is over and the Big 12 is limping out.   Oklahoma losing another close on to Miami capped off a 34-14 non conference schedule with one more game remaining.   The Arkansas rout of Texas A&M Saturday especially stung because it was from a SEC team.  So it looks as though that the Big 12 won’t end up being the 2nd strongest conference.  That can hurt Texas if they notch a loss and there’s no undefeated team in the conference.  Heaven forbid USC or even Ohio State sneaks into the national title game again.   One thing is for sure, the SEC is living up to the hype this year.  Now it’s time to figure out if we lived up to our Pick It hype:

Scoreboards Sent Us Home Alive but Hurting

We did our best to avoid the blast impact of Farmegeddon 2009 and with your help we landed in the bunker that is Scoreboards Bar vs Grille. Scoreboards tucked us away very quietly while we watched the action exploding on the screens. In times of catastrophe, one can’t be concerned of amenities. They must be concerned for survival. Well, we survived Scoreboards. From patching together tvs, to working with outdated accommodations, we walked out of disaster with no scratches and sore backs. Hey at least the food exceeded our expectations of canned beans and cracker jacks.
