Purple Yeti Roar 52: This Year Has Not Been Faked

Manti-teo-Meme

Yup, I’ll talk Manti T’eo here in a second, but it’s a whole new year of the Purple Yeti!  Yeah it’s been good, but it hasn’t been for Manti or more recently Collin Klein.  Look for me talking about that as well as Kansas, Ben Heeney, Kansas State, Shrine Game, Senior Bowl, NFL, Penn State, Al Pacino, Joe Paterno, Charlie Weiss, Oregon, Chip Kelly, Philadelphia Eagles, ESPN, Sporting News, Yahoo Sports, Gawker, and Deadspin Continue reading Purple Yeti Roar 52: This Year Has Not Been Faked

Kansas State Football Preview 2012: Always The Underdog

Another year of Kansas State football is upon us and there’s some weird mixed feelings going on.   Maybe not in Manhattan, but certainly down here in Austin and in this Purple Yeti’s abode.  You see, part of me wants to believe that Kansas State will improve upon its amazing record from last year, but another wants to believe in the negative hype the so called sports media jams down my throat.  Is everyone writing off Kansas State too easily, or will reality hit hard for the little Wildcats from the Little Apple? College Football Lost It’s Gloss But Not It’s Heart

Wow, what a year it has been for college football. Okay, it’s kind of cliché but what I thought would be a rather quiet off-season after a bogus BCS National Championship game, turned into a major circus yet once again. Yes, there were ups and downs but mostly downs. I think this off-season fully solidified the fact that college football is all about the money. I’m going to do my best to hold on to the tradition as tight as I can before it all goes away. Seriously, I’m not trying to bum you out. We did get some great news too. Purple Yeti Roar 15: Cold Drafts Help Make Me Sick

Man I don’t even remember what I was talking about.  The drugs kind of knocked me out.  Oh wait, I think it was something about the NFL Draft, Kansas State, the BCS, The Rose Bowl, the Liberty Bowl, and Bo Pelini.  Something else is in there but I dig through the discarded facial tissues to get it. Continue reading Purple Yeti Roar 15: Cold Drafts Help Make Me Sick

Purple Yeti Roar 04: West Virginia, Mountain Momma

Ah yes, another Purple Yeti Roar is in the house!  I’m still recovering from the copious amount of beer and bar food from yesterday’s Super Bowl, but I had enough time to sit down and roar out my thoughts about college football for the week.  Yes, National Signing Day came and left (with a hunger for Chic-Fil-A as well).   Most of the news for the week, however, revolved around West Virginia’s maneuvering and game cancelling.  Interesting indeed.  Cue the John Devner!

Crib Sheet: A Change Is Gonna Come, Oh Yes It Is

Ah yes, the college football season is officially over.  Time to rest up a bit, kick back, and reflect on what was great and what was terrible for the 2011-2012 college football season.  Go ahead, I’ll still be here. ….(time passes)…. OKAY.  So now that we’ve all mused about gridiron, let’s get down to brass tacks.  There’s winds of change a blowing and they will twirl the leaves around this here blog.  What’s going to happen?  Tune in next week.  We still have some Crib Sheet action to go over so let’s go right ahead and knock it out:

Crib Sheet: Prizes Inside!

It’s that time of year again.  The time to hand out awards for special play by special players.  The Big 12 awards popped out and there were a couple surprises.  The one that jumps out at me is the ‘All-purpose’ award for Kansas State’s Collin Klein.  Was that ever used before in the past?  It seems like they cooked it up just for Klein.  I mean, he’s no Heisman winner, but he was the most important person on the team for the Wildcats.  I guess as a Kansas State fan, I’ll take what I can get.  You have to take what you can get with this week’s Crib Sheet as well, so lets’ get doling:

Crib Sheet: The Chips Have Fallen Into the Bowls

The teams have been announced that cards played out on the table.  The big hand is lame this year but the side bets are sexier.  That’s right the regular season is over and now we are flipping over to bowl season.  There were some snubs as usual, but the Big 12 lineup of bowls still looks pretty strong.  The Cotton Bowl is right up there with the BCS bowls in terms of interesting match ups.  Kansas State vs Arkansas, or Big 12 vs SEC, like it should be.  Call your bets and flop on over to this week’s Crib Sheet.

Chilling Out After Being Stuffed

Man I”m chilling here in the ole home office watching some old episodes of Doctor Who and reflecting on the long holiday weekend that was in college football.  I didn’t go anywhere and opted to be completely lazy.  Turkey day was a smash and I ended up falling asleep pretty fast on the couch.  The NFL games were exciting for once.  But there were two full days of college football that I had to watch.  I’m not sure I remember much so I’ll be short and sweet on this.

Crib Sheet: Twas The Night Before Thanksgiving

And all through the house, pumpkin pie was baking and I was aroused (with hunger).  Yup, it’s that time of year again.  This year, I’m planning on laying back and actually watching some competitive football.  For once it will be both for the NFL and college football.  So there’s been a feast of news leading up to turkey day and I wrapped it up in a big ole slice of Crib Sheet.  It’s kinda like fish and chips, but with college football news and less of stink.  I hope.  Here is this week’s fresh Crib Sheet:

GameDay: More Like ShameDay

Okay so I don’t know how to put what happened in the last week into words.  I was trying to figure out what to say but nothing is really coming to mind.  I just want to watch some football.  The last couple of years, there’s been more and more hype about stuff off the field that it is now overshadowing what I love on the field.  I’m not sure we can go back.  College football has changed.

Crib Sheet: Hello Goodbye

We may be seeing the search for Missouri end real quick.  We also may see the search for the Big 12 heat right up.  The Tigers are planning on leaving for the SEC and we may know about it here by tomorrow.  Alot of people, including myself, thought that they would wait unilt the end of the season to get the ball rolling but apparently they want to move fast.  So in the middle of the football season, we will see even more conference realignment.  I’m just going to avert my eyes from the pain and check out this week’s Crib Sheet:

Crib Sheet: Here We Go Again On Our Own, Maybe

Once we thought we were safe, but anybody who knew their history and knew about the psyche of Missouri understood it was not over.  And with that, Missouri last night gave chancellor Brady Deaton the power to pursue other conferences.  They could be like Oklahoma and stay or they could be like Texas A&M and go.  Time will tell.  Although, they were first on the block last year so I’m pretty sure they are out the door.  Nevermind the fact that Tier 1 and Tier 2 rights are officially equal in the Big 12, provided everyone commits to the league.  Yup, so expect some announcements early next week about conference affiliation so they don’t bother with the actual games being played on the field.  In the meantime, check out this week’s Crib Sheet:
