So it’s Thanksgiving weekend which makes it kinda funny that it’s also Hate Week. We give thanks to what we have in this world and what’s to come, but at the same time we also unleash the rivalry hatred that builds up within us the whole fall. It’s quite exhilarating. We have joy and, half the time, have some hate joy. I can’t explain it. I’m just enjoying the ride. And the turkey. Continue reading Pick It And Stick It: Stuffed With Games

Pick It And Stick It: Gettin’ Started Early This Week
Ah yes, Kansas State once again has a Thursday night game, this time against West Virginia, so it’s time to roll back that schedule and get to prepping early. I’ll actually be going out so you may see a return Barspotting. Exciting, right? But you never know, I could do some feeding action this weekend too. I blame the early start, college football. Continue reading Pick It And Stick It: Gettin’ Started Early This Week
Pick It And Stick It: Clanga I Guess
Kansas State is off this week getting ready for the big Thursday night match up against West Virginia, so I got a swath of college football to watch that doesn’t feature my favorite team. But there is a good handful of important games as well. The biggest of which being a game from the SEC. I’ll take it, but I’ll be doing it with a heavy cow bell heart. Continue reading Pick It And Stick It: Clanga I Guess
Pick It And Stick It: Please Don’t Crap The Bed, Big 12
With Kansas State not playing a game until a week from today, I’d figure I wouldn’t talk too much about the games coming up this weekend. But then last week the worst of the worst happened to Big 10 and it compelled me to peak at what the Big 12 had coming up this week. So I’m going to do my best to break down the games and hope to all that is holy that this Big 12 comes through clean. Continue reading Pick It And Stick It: Please Don’t Crap The Bed, Big 12

Pick It and Stick It 2011 Week 11: Just Don’t Pick It There
Okay, it’s getting to be that time of year. We had a quick preview of it last night. Well the whole week, actually. As the season goes on now, there will be some games on every day of the week. We’ll definitely be knee deep into over Thanksgiving in a couple of weeks. But already last night was an epic match up between Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech. I just hope they don’t pile on big time games on Tuesdays. Tuesdays are for me. Please college football, don’t take my Tuesdays away. It’s the only real day I can recharge and get juiced for another week fo college football. I hope they don’t pick Tuesday but I do hope they Pick It and Stick It. Here’s this week’s fodder:

Pick It and Stick It 2011 Week 10: Tasty Nuggets of Joy
I have to admit, I am getting excited about going to a BBQ this weekend. It’s fun running around the city and checking out new places, but the home cooked food and good times with peeps you know is always a welcomed change of pace. It will be a little awkward, however, as I’ll be sneaking my laptop on over to get ready for the big night games heading our way. I more than likely will not be watching two games at once, but I will be prepared just in case. For everyone else, prepare yourselves for the Pick It and Stick It.
Yeah the night games have high contrasts in terms of spreads. Kansas State and Oklahoma State have a huge 21 point difference while Alabama and LSU have only 4.5. Yeah I know Arkansas and South Carolina are close together too at 5.0. Out of those, I think LSU will make it a toss up. Sorry but Kansas State blew its wad already and it will be hard to watch via streaming laptop Saturday night. Meanwhile, earlier in the day, there is nothing exciting. Big 12 wise, Texas is up big on Texas Tech, but that will be closer. Iowa State should hang one on the pathetic Kansas Jayhawks. Oklahoma will run right over Texas A&M. That Baylor against Missouri will be a shoot out. Everything else is seriously blah.
Up and Down at Champions
The weekend was very much filled with ups and downs as I had a great friend in town and was juggling college football, concerts, and quality time. That’s why some of you who were expecting a GameDay post Saturday came up empty. Never fear, my funky friends, I now get to talk about Champions Bar and Grill in downtown Austin. My bud and my lady took over the bar for a the brief amount of time and then we bolted on out for the rest of our adventure. That ended up being the best plan, too, because my team fell back down to earth and I missed the crash. Continue reading Up and Down at Champions
Barspotting: Champions
I’ve been going back and forth trying to figure out which place to go for this week’s barspot. It’s not that big of a weekend in terms of college football as #1 and #2 isn’t playing. My team is however and it’s kind of a championship weekend for them. So what better place to watch the game than Champions! They are smack dab downtown and offer up a tight little joint for some football watching. I was actually there 2 years ago for SXSW and stopped by there for lunch during the conference. It was my first stop at a sports bar in Austin. So I’m bringing out all the stops for this weekend’s games.
Crib Sheet: Realignment Is Spooky
Sometimes having this tasty looking Crib Sheet in the middle of the week can be a curse. Sometimes it can be blessing. It’s a little bit of both right now. So last Friday Missouri pretty much said that they were leaving the Big 12 (again) and snuck out the back door to wash their cold feet. This week it appears that West Virginia is leaving the Big East for the Big 12, with some contingencies attached. I think when this is all over, everyone will have a ‘win-win’ situation, except for Kansas City. The soul is slowly being sucked away from that town, and this kind of conference nonsense stretches that hole out for a faster escape. I guess that’s part of why I left. Hey, it’s all about ups and downs, blessings and cursing. Here’s this week’s pre-Halloween creepy Crib Sheet:
Pick It and Stick It 2011 Week 08: Ready, Flick, Fight!
It’s high time to duke it out on the field for dominance on the college football landscape. The unbeatens will dwindle down here real soon, if not this weekend, and it’s everyone team for themselves. Please remember, however, by fighting I mean actually playing tough football. I do not mean actually fighting the opposing players. It seems in the last couple of weeks some players have been confused and took to fisticuffs. Heck 41 players are suspended because of a big brawl that happened last weekend. Please, when you go out there fight well in terms of football, not Mortal Kombat. Now, it’s time to go over the Pick It and Stick It and look for some fatalities. Finish Him!

Pick It and Stick It 2011 Week 05: Time To Play For Real
Conference play kind of opened up last weekend for the Big 12, but this weekend we have a couple of head to head match ups. I don’t know which game will be more exciting, the Texas vs Iowa State or Kansas State vs Baylor. The obvious is the Kansas State game but if you remember last year, Iowa State went down to Austin and beat the Longhorns. The local media around here is chirping about how it’s a revenge game but the player interviews talk about how they expect to handle Iowa State easily. We’ll find that out Saturday as well as just how real Kansas State’s defense really is. Here’s this week’s Pick It and Stick It: Continue reading Pick It and Stick It 2011 Week 05: Time To Play For Real
Barspotting: Laying up to the Backspin Sports Bar & Grill
Another week of barspotting and I’m going for the trifecta. It’s been 2 great weeks of college football watching and I need one more joint to make me believe that Austin is serious about sports bars. The last two weeks were easy because it was close to downtown. Now it’s time to throw Austin for a loop and go for that ‘remote neighborhood family bar’ joint. Well, I’ve found down south in the Backspin Sports Bar & Grill. Saturday I’ll find out if the remote locations of Austin bring the game like the places closer to the heart of the city do.

Crib Sheet: Check Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself
So the deed is finally done. Texas A&M and the SEC made it official. Now last week, we found out that the Big 12 was staying together. We also found out that Dan Beebe resigned, at the request of Oklahoma and some others. Connected sports guy Chuck Neinas was setup as the interim Big 12 Commissioner. What else? The 1st and 2nd tier television rights are on the table. That’s fine for Texas because the LHN is 3rd tier, noinch! The athletic directors all met and were saying they are committed to keeping the Big 12 alive. Although, it seems Missouri’s foot is still out of the door. Worse yet, the reason Oklahoma wanted the Big 12 to stay alive was because they couldn’t swing a deal with the Pac 12. So is it safe? I guess it is for now. I’ll be certain of it when somebody actually joins the conference instead of leaves it. Until then, here’s another installment of the Crib Sheet: Continue reading Crib Sheet: Check Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself
