Alrighty, I’ve been waiting for this all year. This week Kansas States heads to my new hometown in Austin to take on the Texas Longhorns at Darrel K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. It’s going to be another epic battle because that’s what the Wildcats to me and my heart. The spread is 10 points in Texas favor. I don’t know why but I’m okay with that. Kansas State have been underdogs all year around. Amongst the gamesmanship, this will be my first trip to the stadium. I’m very curious how the Longhorns treat visitors as well as how they whole football experience stacks up there. It’s gonna be a great time.

It’s the middle of the season and we are looking completely different from where we thought we were at. That’s okay. That’s how college football works. The way things changed week to week is what makes it the best sport in my mind and hopefully yours. So will the rest of the season prove even more unpredictable? We’ve yet to see any real upsets yet and we’re knee-deep into conference play. So chances are the 13 or so undefeated teams will start to dwindle down. I have to say I’m a little giddy at the news that TCU will be accepting the offer to join the Big 12. Yeah, I know that they turned the gravy train around from the Big East but they are a better fit and I’m sure they were a little shakey about that conference after Pitt and Syracuse decided to leave. Yes, the Big East is in HUGE trouble, and now it’s the Big 12’s turn to take a deep breath and grab a couple of more teams. In fact, I’d say it’s high time for the Big 12 to Pick It and Stick It! That’s right, I’ll be on a plane shortly but I want to get the picks up for the week. It’s hard to stay focused with the Big 12 in legal gridlock. You know, I thought professional wrestling was soap opera for guys but now I know that college football realignment is the real deal. No offense to the WWE, but this stuff is way better than the scripted stuff I used to watch. So as the conference turn, get your picks in and hope for the best.
Whoops! I guess I missed a Crib Sheet last week. . You know, I was in the midst of SXSW and was about to endure the worst Montezuma’s Revenge on this planet. I’m all caught up now and will deliver on this week’s Crib Sheet. That’s right, it’s a double sized version of the Crib Sheet. Whip out the bib we are about to get messy:
Another actual barspot and I’m keeping up on the known favorites with Lew’s Grill and Bar. I’ve been here a couple of times and have begun to become a regular here. They’ve upgraded the televisions and also the food. The day of football was long and fun, so I was glad I got the sweet spot for watching in the bar. Regarding the action on field, we saw some tight games and some surprising blowouts. It was a lazy day, but it sure was a weird one too.
Conference play opened up over the weekend and we are getting into the beef of the schedule. Sure, the potatoes of the non conference fed us well, but we wanted meat and now we are getting it. Speaking of getting it, some of our pickers got it hard both on the weekly pick set and the creeping up of bad picks from weeks gone. Some teams as well missed the chicken piece mark and had to eat the gravy sandwich. It somewhat gets complicated from here on out so grab your meat and hold on.
Okay so this will be a lil weird. Barspotting found me outside of Kansas City again Saturday for the second week in a row. This time, I was in Minnesota. Minneapolis to be exact. So prior obligations held me up north and by some crazy chance I was able to stumble into a sports bar up there to catch at least one football game. Among the lessons learned on this trip was that regional football coverage can sometimes cramp your football watching style. Well that and onion rings alone can be pretty tasty.

So here ware trucking through our Big 10 Expansion, running over our introduction and Big 10 history along the way. Today our focus beams toward why the Big 10 wants to expand. Like we said yesterday, money is a big part but not the whole pie. Other slices include the silver bullet of television, the need to grow, scratching the itch that’s been bothering them the past 20 years, channeling baseball’s New York Yankee style of athletic competition, and the dust collecting on their trophy shelves. Think of money as the crust that keeps the filling in the pie. It’s alot to handle so we’ll try not to drive you crazy with the reasons.

Yesterday we laid the groundwork for the expansion drama that’s girdling up the loins of college football at the moment. Today we are taking a look at how the history of the Big 10 led us to this point. There’s over 100 years of data to go over, but we are blowing through the earliest parts and focus on the last 20 years. Expansion is in the blood of the Big 10 and they’ve acted on it. They tried many times and failed but were able to pull one team in the fold. So let’s ring up the good Doctor and fly away in the TARDIS back to the start of the Big 10.

Halloween is over and we’re still feeling the hurt over the load of candy and Joose. We rocked many parties and kinda wished we were at one that had Kansas State at Oklahoma on. Oh well. We are still enjoying the various fun sizes of candy. Our favorites include Snickers, Butterfinger, and Milky Way. But enough about candy. We’re sweet on the Pick It Standings now. We also have some tasty BCS standings to go over as the polls turned sweeter to some winning teams over some other teams that had some sour victorious.
