I grew up in Kansas, but I’m no farmer. Shocking right? Well not really, but I have grown to love the rivalry that started all Great Plains rivalries. Yup, I’m talking about Farmageddon. It’s yearly tradition where Kansas State takes on Iowa State. It’s also very early in the year. It’s like getting up at the crack of dawn for the college football year’s day. There’s other games, too so let’s get started. Continue reading Pick It And Stick It: Morning Farm Time

Pick It and Stick It: Dangling Game of the Century
It’s a little late but I’m back for some predictions and nose flickings by the way of Pick It and Stick It. It’s been a roller coaster year for my team, Kansas State, but we also have some peaks and valleys for others. I’ll predict just what will happen going into the weekends with no accountability attached to it. Yes, I’ll talk about this week’s Game of the Century as well. Continue reading Pick It and Stick It: Dangling Game of the Century
Purple Yeti Roar 34: Week 02 Recap is Jamacain Spice VooDoo
I come to you a little late and recovering from the spicy voodoo that was week 2 in college football. My Kansas State Wildcats surprised everyone, including me, by blowing out the Miami Hurricanes. The rest of the Big 12 was ho hum and I even got to see the SEC look a little silly. All that and some tasty buffalo wing reactions coming up. Quick apology for the quiet audio as well. Continue reading Purple Yeti Roar 34: Week 02 Recap is Jamacain Spice VooDoo
Pick It and Stick It: We’ve Gone To Preview Mode
Why preview mode? Because I’m tired of doing the ole cut and paste from the Yahoo Fantasy College Football Pick’Em, that’s why. But I certainly don’t want to leave a gap in the ole coverage of this weekend’s game. Yeah, I missed last weekend, but it was Labor Day so I didn’t really work. I’m ready to stick it this week, so let’s find out what I think about this weekend’s games. Follow along on the the ESPN Schedule. Continue reading Pick It and Stick It: We’ve Gone To Preview Mode
Thankspotting: Home Away From Home For The Holidays
Last week was rough. For lots of reasons. Tailgating as hard as I did last weekend has left some lingering effects. There’s also a sprinkle of great games from Thursday through Saturday. So I decided that this week, it will be some major home spectating. It’s a weird week for me anyway because this is the first Thanksgiving I’ve had away from home. Hopefully I won’t miss Mom’s stuffing too much. Let’s check out the games.

Crib Sheet: Closing A Chapter on This Book
Okay so alot of stuff happened over the last week regarding the Penn State Jerry Sandusky situation. And when I say alot of stuff, I mean alot. Basically, that school is screwed and it will take forever to rebuild. I’m sure due process will play out and what not, but it’s passed the point of no longer needing to be covered here. So let’s cheer up a bit. I’m going to a live college football game Saturday! I’m already getting stoked because I have some buds coming into town to watch it with me. In the meantime, here’s this week’s Crib Sheet:
Barspotting: Champions
I’ve been going back and forth trying to figure out which place to go for this week’s barspot. It’s not that big of a weekend in terms of college football as #1 and #2 isn’t playing. My team is however and it’s kind of a championship weekend for them. So what better place to watch the game than Champions! They are smack dab downtown and offer up a tight little joint for some football watching. I was actually there 2 years ago for SXSW and stopped by there for lunch during the conference. It was my first stop at a sports bar in Austin. So I’m bringing out all the stops for this weekend’s games.
Pick It And Stick It 2011 Week 04: Sticking Together
Whew! Another close one for the Big 12. I swear, the Big 12 is the greatest thing since MTV’s The Real World. If you want to talk about the best conferences, then the one with the best drama factor definitely is the Big 12. Yeah, they are staying together but we really don’t know for how long. So while they hold hands again and tell everybody that things are cool, let’s focus on some actual football. This week’s Pick It an Stick It kind of reflects the noise off the field. Like the Big 12, most of the great games are stuck together around 2:30 Saturday. That’s fine for me and my barspotting trip, but how will it fare for the picks? Continue reading Pick It And Stick It 2011 Week 04: Sticking Together
Barspotting: Draft Pick
Last week was such a treat, let’s see if we can keep it going. It’s funny how the business side happens early in the week and the games get played later in the week. Now that everything has calmed down over conference realignment, it’s high time I thought about the pros and made a Draft Pick. They’re all business when it comes to football watching and I’ll be ready to do it. There’s a good block of games going on at the same time and I fully intend on watching all of them at the same time. Fortunately, they have a decent draft selection for me to sample from. Doc’s Backyard Made Me Feel At Home
Oh wow let me see how I remember this. It’s a new year of barspotting and the first notch on the Austin belt is Doc’s Backyard. Most of the bars I will be to this season will be the first time that I’ve been there, except for Doc’s. It’s close enough to my new place and has some decent reviews. So how did it fare Saturday? The atmosphere reflects back onto the experience. Continue reading Doc’s Backyard Made Me Feel At Home

Barspotting: Kicking Off A New Town of Barspotting at Doc’s Backyard
Alrighty, football is here and you know what that means: Barspotting! For those of you not familiar with how Barspotting works, I basically tool around town and find places to watch college football then rate whether it’s worth it to check it out yourself. This year will be different because I’m in a whole new town. So I get to find a whole bunch of new bars review and also get the added benefit of finding my way around town. The first ever Austin edition of Barspotting will feature Doc’s Backyard in Sunset Valley, well, because they are real close to me. Not only that but they have a supposedly real tasty Chicken Fried Avacado. Let’s check out Saturday’s lineup. Continue reading Barspotting: Kicking Off A New Town of Barspotting at Doc’s Backyard
Crib Sheet: Crispy Tan
No fireworks last weekend but lots of fun and sun by the cool. So yeah, I’m feeling like a KFC extra crispy. It’s not enough to stop me from bringing this week’s Crib Sheet:
Barspotting: They Built It, We’re Coming
So way back in 2007 we went on a road trip up to Iowa and now we are finally heading back. Des Moines, specifically. Much has happened up there and we’re itching to see what’s changed. We’re gonna do the same thing we did with Wichita and just pick a spot. Same stips’ apply. If you are lucky enough to be in the Des Moines area or want to follow us on up there, check out this page or our twitter feed (@kccgd) and we’ll let you know. Until then, we got some tasty roasted corn like games for the weekend that you need to check out.
Johnny’s Tavern Still Has the Power
It’s been almost a year since we’ve been to Johnny’s Tavern and it took the rest of the season for us to decide that it was the best Barspot for last year. So, as tradition calls, we found ourselves back at Johnny’s Tavern at the Power & Light District to enjoy the first full Saturday of college football. The bar hasn’t changed much but just enough for us to take notice. The food specials knocked us out but the games were kind of so so. Read on as we go over Johnny’s Tavern and recount the action on the field.
