Alrighty welp I’m back for another week of actual Barspotting. Kansas City was nice and all but I’ve been to all the good bars up there and now I’m ready to hit (or find) the good bars down here in Austin. This week I’m going to try to get to Third Base. Hopefully, I can play my cards right and get there to brag about it all to you on Monday morning. From the looks of things it’s a hot spot to be at so I know it’ll be crowded with others when I get there. Come on and join me!

Crib Sheet: It’s PMA Day
There could be a big ole disparaging parenthetical here about how the Big 12 will go away and how badly it will affect my peeps and schools back home around the Kansas City area, but I’m deciding that we’ll focus on the good things this week. Sure there may be moves, but our teams will play this Saturday and many Saturdays to come. Whether or not they will play for a national title might still be going away real quickly, we’ll get enjoy the regional rivals and funky inter-conference matchups. It’s time for some PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) and for this week’s Crib Sheet: Continue reading Crib Sheet: It’s PMA Day
Pick It Standings 2011 Week 02: A Trophy Weekend
Nope, not rivalry weekend, but a weekend so great it deserves its own trophy. Going into last weekend, I was nonplussed about the matchups, but after witnessing three epic games, I’m eating some crow. I may also be eating some crow with this week’s Pick It and Stick It Standings. Now last week, I was in last, but I’ve been bumped up to tied for last! I’m in a hole like Chip Kelly and Notre Dame, but I totally believe I can turn it around. Now on to the standings: Continue reading Pick It Standings 2011 Week 02: A Trophy Weekend
The Heartland Had Heartpounding and Heartbreaking Action
So I’m running a little bit late today but as soon as I hit the front door last night, I got kicked in the face by the awesome weekend. Yes, I flew back home to Kansas City for the weekend. The main goal was to have great quality time with friends and family. The secondary goal was to watch some fantastic college football. Mission accomplished on both, especially for the three football games.

GameDay: Tradition Lost
The trip home is already turning out to be epic. Friends, family, and lotsa food did not do me wrong. It’s already been epic for college football, too. I just watch Iowa State and Iowa play an instant classic battling for the recently re-redesigned Cy-Hawk Trophy. That led me to wonder, with all of the new and improved conference realignment disaster, how will tradition be handled? Continue reading GameDay: Tradition Lost
PIck It and Stick It: Fling It Home
That’s right, I’ll be on a plane shortly but I want to get the picks up for the week. It’s hard to stay focused with the Big 12 in legal gridlock. You know, I thought professional wrestling was soap opera for guys but now I know that college football realignment is the real deal. No offense to the WWE, but this stuff is way better than the scripted stuff I used to watch. So as the conference turn, get your picks in and hope for the best.
HomeSpotting: Homeward Bound
Yeah, so soon right? This weekend I’m forgoing my new home and heading up to Kansas City, the place I was born and raised. Long story short: I didn’t get a chance to visit the last time I was up there so I figured this weekend would be a good one to do so. It’s after Labor Day so the tickets were cheaper plus I get to watch my 2nd favorite team Notre Dame play my homey Jolly’s favorite team Michigan. There’s a BBQ to be had so nothing official, sorry Tanner’s. But it will be a blast and I will do my best to recount it amongst the haze. Continue reading HomeSpotting: Homeward Bound
Crib Sheet: Kicking Off Another Season
HO BOY OH BOY OH BOY! It’s here! Well, one more day. But finally after an anguishing offseason, college football is back! Tomorrow night kicks it off and we get our itch scratch all the way through January. Here we go! But first, the last Crib Sheet of the offseason: Continue reading Crib Sheet: Kicking Off Another Season
Big 12 Preview 2011: They’re Coming And Going And Going And Coming And Always Too Soon
Oh last year was such a treat. Nebraska and Colorado decided to leave and the rest of the league was all arms together in solidarity. After a bumpy season and a dramatic victory for Oklahoma over Nebraska in the last ever Big 12 Championship Game, we are on the cuff of another great season. Well, not so fast. Texas A&M didn’t like how Texas threw their weight around in the off season and are about to leave. It’s a good thing none of the ginormous scandal affected any of the conference schools. Whether they leave or not, the Aggies have to play this year. Let’s see where everyone ends up. Continue reading Big 12 Preview 2011: They’re Coming And Going And Going And Coming And Always Too Soon
Kansas State Wildcats Football Preview 2011: Silver and Purple Seeing Brown
The Bronx Salute. Everyone remembers it, or at lease they should. If you don’t, just think back to last year’s inaugural Pinstripe Bowl and Adrian Hilburn’s ‘salute’ to the fans after scoring a touchdown and moving the score to 36-24 and a 2 point conversion. He was penalized and the Wildcats had to go for 2 from the 18 yard line. They didn’t get it and lost the game. You could blame some poor play before, but I will point out that the NCAA changed rules in the off season due to this. So now it’s the 2011 season. I’m not asking if they will recover from that loss of the Pinstripe Bowl, but I will be asking about the loss of Daniel Thomas. And what I will see is Brown.

Crib Sheet: Winds Of Change (Pocket) Blowing In Miami
This week’s drama is Miami and the Ponzi schemed Nevin Shapiro who was making it rain all over the place. Among the accused, two new Alabama assistant coaches, a former Husker, newly minted K-Stater’s Bryce and Arthur Brown, Missouri head basketball coach Frank Haith, and 15 current Miami players. This summer has been brutal for college football on the public relations side. It’s been all about the money and breaking the rules. It’s like NASCAR. Or worse yet, baseball. Winds of change will be blowing real quick. Maybe it means the players will finally get paid. On to the Crib Sheet: Continue reading Crib Sheet: Winds Of Change (Pocket) Blowing In Miami
Welcome to KC College GameDay – In Austin!
Okay yeah there’s not that much change around here. For those of you that don’t know, I moved from Kansas City to Austin earlier this year. I’m finally getting on my feet here but this blog is one of things I need to settle now. The whole point of this blog was to go around Kansas City and find the best sports bars to watch the best sport, college football. Well life changes can jack things up a bit so now I’m unjacking this part. I thought long and hard and decided to keep on doing what I’m doing.
Crib Sheet: Now I Know Why It’s Burnt Orange
So yes, a Big 12 North guy is now in the heart of most of the North’s rivals, Texas. I moved down here for the job and got the side benefits of being in the belly of the football beast. Granted there’s no more North or South, but I do get tout my Kansas State pride a little more because of the recent record we’ve had against them. Back to my point. The Longhorns are burnt orange color because that’s what the grass looks like most of the time. It’s either wildfires, winter, or both. It’s a good think this week’s Crib Sheet is inflammable:

Crib Sheet: A Hundred and Ten in the Shady Offseason
While I’m battling record heat here in my first summer in Austin, it seems college football is battling an offseason of corruption. At least that’s what it seems like. I think it’s more that the year before we all thought conferences (including the Big 12) were gonna blow up. Now everything is safe, things are going back to normal. That includes kids and coaches breaking rules. Let’s break on over to this week’s Crib Sheet and find out some more:

Crib Sheet: Another White Hot Week
It’s ever so toasty down here in Austin, so I will keep this intro short and then grab some water. I broke a sweat already. Here’s this week’s Crib Sheet:
