Pick It and Stick It 2011 Week 10: Tasty Nuggets of Joy

I have to admit, I am getting excited about going to a BBQ this weekend.  It’s fun running around the city and checking out new places, but the home cooked food and good times with peeps you know is always a welcomed change of pace.  It will be a little awkward, however, as I’ll be sneaking my laptop on over to get ready for the big night games heading our way.  I more than likely will not be watching two games at once, but I will be prepared just in case.  For everyone else, prepare yourselves for the Pick It and Stick It.

Yeah the night games have high contrasts in terms of spreads.  Kansas State and Oklahoma State have a huge 21 point difference while Alabama and LSU have only 4.5.  Yeah I know Arkansas and South Carolina are close together too at 5.0.  Out of those, I think LSU will make it a toss up.  Sorry but Kansas State blew its wad already and it will be hard to watch via streaming laptop Saturday night.  Meanwhile, earlier in the day, there is nothing exciting.  Big 12 wise, Texas is up big on Texas Tech, but that will be closer.  Iowa State should hang one on the pathetic Kansas Jayhawks.  Oklahoma will run right over Texas A&M.  That Baylor against Missouri will be a shoot out.  Everything else is seriously blah.

Crib Sheet: Realignment Is Spooky

Sometimes having this tasty looking Crib Sheet in the middle of the week can be a curse.  Sometimes it can be blessing.  It’s a little bit of both right now.  So last Friday Missouri pretty much said that they were leaving the Big 12 (again) and snuck out the back door to wash their cold feet.  This week it appears that West Virginia is leaving the Big East for the Big 12, with some contingencies attached.  I think when this is all over, everyone will have a ‘win-win’ situation, except for Kansas City.  The soul is slowly being sucked away from that town, and this kind of conference nonsense stretches that hole out for a faster escape.  I guess that’s part of why I left.  Hey, it’s all about ups and downs, blessings and cursing.  Here’s this week’s pre-Halloween creepy Crib Sheet:

Pick It and Stick It 2011 Week 06: Pick the Bigger One

I have to say I’m a little giddy at the news that TCU will be accepting the offer to join the Big 12.  Yeah, I know that they turned the gravy train around from the Big East but they are a better fit and I’m sure they were a little shakey about that conference after Pitt and Syracuse decided to leave.  Yes, the Big East is in HUGE trouble, and now it’s the Big 12’s turn to take a deep breath and grab a couple of more teams.  In fact, I’d say it’s high time for the Big 12 to Pick It and Stick It!  Speaking of which, we have another exciting weekend of action on the field and on your pick sets.  Let’s go over the list:

Pick It and Stick It 2011 Week 05: Time To Play For Real

Conference play kind of opened up last weekend for the Big 12, but this weekend we have a couple of head to head match ups.  I don’t know which game will be more exciting, the Texas vs Iowa State or Kansas State vs Baylor.  The obvious is the Kansas State game but if you remember last year, Iowa State went down to Austin and beat the Longhorns.  The local media around here is chirping about how it’s a revenge game but the player interviews talk about how they expect to handle Iowa State easily.  We’ll find that out Saturday as well as just how real Kansas State’s defense really is.  Here’s this week’s Pick It and Stick It: Continue reading Pick It and Stick It 2011 Week 05: Time To Play For Real

Pick It And Stick It 2011 Week 04: Sticking Together

Whew!  Another close one for the Big 12.  I swear, the Big 12 is the greatest thing since MTV’s The Real World.  If you want to talk about the best conferences, then the one with the best drama factor definitely is the Big 12.  Yeah, they are staying together but we really don’t know for how long.  So while they hold hands again and tell everybody that things are cool, let’s focus on some actual football.  This week’s Pick It an Stick It kind of reflects the noise off the field.  Like the Big 12, most of the great games are stuck together around 2:30 Saturday.  That’s fine for me and my barspotting trip, but how will it fare for the picks? Pick It and Stick It: Sticking With The Crowd

It’s the hustle and bustle of college football.  At the beginning of the year, everyone is tied 0-0.  Slowly and weekly, the winners bubble up and the losers peter out.  We’re getting into week 3 and it’s still crowded.  We haven’t yet hit the real bubbling point.  Apparently it’s Road Test Weekend so we’ll more than likely get the cauldron cooking real quick.  Speaking of being crowded, I’m planning and surfing the flesh at the Austin City Limits Music Festival. Granted I have Sunday tickets so it won’t be too bad, but Saturday’s at Third Base Sports Bar.  Let’s hope people don’t bubble up vomit and I don’t peter out.

HomeSpotting: Homeward Bound

Yeah, so soon right?  This weekend I’m forgoing my new home and heading up to Kansas City, the place I was born and raised.  Long story short:  I didn’t get a chance to visit the last time I was up there so I figured this weekend would be a good one to do so.  It’s after Labor Day so the tickets were cheaper plus I get to watch my 2nd favorite team Notre Dame play my homey Jolly’s favorite team Michigan.  There’s a BBQ to be had so nothing official, sorry Tanner’s.  But it will be a blast and I will do my best to recount it amongst the haze. Crib Sheet: Another Summer Another Realignment Saga

Only this time it’s smaller.  Presidential hopeful Rick Perry open his mouth and pulled a Jay Nixon by saying that there are talks between Texas A&M and the SEC for a big move.  Next thing you know, the whole damn college football world is on fire.  Red fire!  I’ve chosen to stay out of this one over the weekend.  If I learned anything last year, it’s that nowadays rumors are 95% of the ‘reports’ out there and the other 5% has a shred of truth to it.  So as of right now, the SEC is staying chill, The Texas A&M president has power to explore realignment as well as take his time, the NCAA may get involved, and Rick Perry now says he doesn’t expect Texas A&M to leave.  If you’re asking me what will happen, I’m saying that A&M is out at the end of the BCS contract (2014).  Why?  The Big 12 will blow up after the restructure of the BCS and somehow, sadly, Texas finds the vacated ‘Notre Dame Automatic Bid’ and dumps the conference.  The rest of the teams fill out the Mountain West, Big 10, and SEC.

Crib Sheet: Now I Know Why It’s Burnt Orange

So yes, a Big 12 North guy is now in the heart of most of the North’s rivals, Texas.   I moved down here for the job and got the side benefits of being in the belly of the football beast.  Granted there’s no more North or South, but I do get tout my Kansas State pride a little more because of the recent record we’ve had against them.  Back to my point.  The Longhorns are burnt orange color because that’s what the grass looks like most of the time.  It’s either wildfires, winter, or both.  It’s a good think this week’s Crib Sheet is inflammable:

Mascot Monday: Rowdy

Mascot Monday is back and we are racing to make it in under the wire.  Fortunately for use, we will be looking at the University of Texas at San Antonio’s Rowdy the Roadrunner.  In celebration of instituting their very first year of football, I’m gonna do a fly over on Rowdy and see if he can stack up well against veteran mascots right out of the gate.  I’m going to toss in a preview of some of their opponents for the next couple of years as well as talk about the legendary coach that’s taking his shot at building a program from the ground up.

Crib Sheet: It’s That Pre-Time Again

Two things this week made me realize college football is right around the corner.  First, Phil Steele’s College Football Preview for 2011 went on sale yesterday.  Second, the Crib Sheet has over 15 news items this week.  It’s coming, so get ready.  But first the Crib Sheet:

Crib Sheet: Deep in the Heat of Texas

Welp I’m finally settled down here as the KCCGD Express is powered down and unpacked.  You know, people were saying that the heat is bad down here but I don’t mind it so much.  It’s not July yet, but mid 90s in late April/early May is a new thing for me.  And I love it.  People were meant to wear less clothes.  Now on to this week’s Crib Sheet:

Crib Sheet: Late Valentine

Back again and were in love.   The Crib Sheet today reminds us that every single thing, including the offseason lull, makes up the whole of our love for college football.  Now, I’m not going to get all smushy and corny, but I will say that if college football was a person, I would hand it a candied heart that says, “Don’t Stop.”  Now on to the Crib Sheet:

Bowl Pick It and Stick It: The Bowl Nine Yards

Here we are in the middle of bowl season.  I got some good gear for Xmas and I hope you got some too.  The bowl action was light in the last week, but we are now ramping up into the  meat of the schedule.  Most of the Big 12 schools will be playing this week and  there will be ample action in between.  Meanwhile, I Bowl Pick It and Stick It standings are out are some peeps jumping out of the gate quick.  Let’s look at that first:

Homespotting: My Home and Yours for Turkey Day Weekend

You know, when I started this blog, it was all about going out.  My main reason was to watch college football at its maximum potential.  I couldn’t afford a rig so a bar was the next best thing.  I’ve watched some football before at home but this time I’m going all out.  The games are spread out perfectly, not unlike a Thanksgiving dinner, this weekend so I figured what better way to graze on the games while I graze on leftovers by staying home and watching it from KCCGD Headquarters.  Happy Thanksgiving to everyone out there and I hope you have as much fun watching the great action as I do.
