This week’s drama is Miami and the Ponzi schemed Nevin Shapiro who was making it rain all over the place. Among the accused, two new Alabama assistant coaches, a former Husker, newly minted K-Stater’s Bryce and Arthur Brown, Missouri head basketball coach Frank Haith, and 15 current Miami players. This summer has been brutal for college football on the public relations side. It’s been all about the money and breaking the rules. It’s like NASCAR. Or worse yet, baseball. Welp I’m finally settled down here as the KCCGD Express is powered down and unpacked. You know, people were saying that the heat is bad down here but I don’t mind it so much. It’s not July yet, but mid 90s in late April/early May is a new thing for me. And I love it. People were meant to wear less clothes. Now on to this week’s Crib Sheet:

It’s national signing day! Okay, so it’s not that exciting, but we have some Big 12 updates flying in and I don’t want to take away from the exciting coverage. Usually half the kids that are worth something don’t pan out anyway. It’s a good thing that ESPN covers this overhyped event in the only way that ESPN can over hype. Now on to the Crib Sheet:
The coaching carousel is almost at a stop and now we are getting closer to signing day. Who will go where? I don’t know. But one thing I do know is the Crib Sheet will keep you updated with all of the latest commitments and decommitments:
So last night’s Insight Bowl happened. I’m still sleepy from the late running game. Iowa held off Missouri for a 27-24 victory, with the biggest play in the game going to Blaine Gabbertt tossing a pick six in the 4th quarter to give Iowa the game. Later on there was controversial overturn to receiver T.J. Moe on 4th and 6. Really, the story of the game was a Tiger defense that let a 3rd string running back set an Iowa bowl record for rushing yards. Missouri’s offense chugged along fine except for a few mistakes. Overall, the team looked way less into than Iowa and I think the fight in the heart of the Hawkeyes made the score that we see today. Now let’s check out the bowl edition of the Crib Sheet:
Here we are in the middle of bowl season. I got some good gear for Xmas and I hope you got some too. The bowl action was light in the last week, but we are now ramping up into the meat of the schedule. Most of the Big 12 schools will be playing this week and there will be ample action in between. Meanwhile, I Bowl Pick It and Stick It standings are out are some peeps jumping out of the gate quick. Let’s look at that first:

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Happy holidays from KC College GameDay! It’s bowl season and I’ll do a couple of recaps in the next couple of days as well as run down some bowls I’m in to. In the meantime, we have a fat Crib Sheet so let’s get to it:
Alrighty, the second try to watch some football at my favorite local neighborhood hole in the wall, JJ’s Other Place. I’ve been there plenty at night and now I’ve been there during the day. I’ll stick with being there at night. I forgot a couple of important items as well as the fact there wasn’t that much to watch that day. It was a pretty good time nonetheless. Batten down the hatches, folks, it’s getting to be cold season. The dripping and drooling will now have much more effect. I started noticing it this week. Some people had coughs and sniffles, others taking afternoons off. I, myself, have some kind of weird chest tightness going. Never fear, I just downed some Airborne infused OJ after soaking some Vitamin C Zicam. It’s pretty much the opposite of Four Loko. I suggest if you get the first signs of a cold, use that remedy. Now on to the picks.
Okay, I’m giving JJ’s Other Place one more shot. They didn’t have power for our game last week, even though they were open that evening. So I’m going back to give them a college try for this Saturday. The morning games all suck, but once the afternoon hits we get some Top 25 clashes. Let’s hope that they will have a enough juice for the week for use to enjoy at least one of those. The backup plan, for the first time ever, is Lew’s Grill and Bar. Another actual barspot and I’m keeping up on the known favorites with Lew’s Grill and Bar. I’ve been here a couple of times and have begun to become a regular here. They’ve upgraded the televisions and also the food. The day of football was long and fun, so I was glad I got the sweet spot for watching in the bar. Regarding the action on field, we saw some tight games and some surprising blowouts. It was a lazy day, but it sure was a weird one too.
Yesterday was the first Halloween at the new place and I have to say that the trick or treater representation was mega weak. Me and my lovely lady had two big ole bags of variety candy and we only about 5 kids show up. As of right now, we are through one bag. I’m not sure I can make much more as the thought of gnawing down another Charleston Chew is starting to make me sick. There was plenty to be sick about for college football around the Kansas City area as well as the Pick It and Stick It sets so let’s bring a glass water for this

So I’m sitting here on Halloween Sunday watching a bit of The Evil Dead and I wished that I was doing that yesterday instead of hanging out at the Brooksider. The former barspot of the year is on the last lap of some renovations and the changes were not all for the good. Me and my crew headed out there for some Missouri and Nebraska action and we went away with a let down feeling in our stomach. The feeling was both for the game and the bar.
